With closing remarks last Thursday like "connected" "empowered" "hopeful" "let's go!"We are all clearly are a team of committed folks who are ready to take action.
AWESOME!!
To bring Pedestrian Connectors from vision to reality, we need to inform ourselves of what is out there in the world and what has happened thusfar in Sebastopol.
We will likely be presenting to the Council and/or working with the Planning Department as this project unfolds. Being able to show examples will boost our credibility, as well as the resources we all (city staff and our members) can draw upon as we move forward.
At our meeting 2/6, we have a few presentations about Ped and Signage reports that have been put together before this Task Force:
- ***Tina Grob & Eric Spillman: SDAT Ped Connector recommendations
- ***Maggie Fleming: the Ped side of the Bike/Ped Master Plan
- ***Jan Peterson: Already approved Plan for vehicle-oriented Wayfinding Signs
Larry Needleman, Jan Peterson and I met to synthesize the wonderful ideas (over 200!) that were offered during the World Cafe discussions last Thursday.
From this, we will be making some proposals for next steps, such as
- Walking a few routes in small groups, taking notes about potential issues
- Making a website NOW that offers many wonderful suggestions of pedestrian routes, independent of any on-street signage. This website can be done in a way that makes it work well on smartphones and tablets also.
- Preparing to interface with the city and be active participants in an eventual official pedestrian connector system that includes signs, printed maps, an interactive kiosk and a mobile app.
Please RSVP so we know how many to expect on Thursday 2/6.
See you soon!
