Cannot log into RideWithGPS

Hello,

Today I was tried using the app for a new trip and test the turn-by-turn direction feature, but found myself unable to log into RideWithGPS.  I get the error message "Failed to log into RideWithGPS. Check your email and password."  I checked the email and password and there's nothing wrong with them.  Meanwhile nothing else has changed since I last used the app a few weeks ago when connection to RideWithGP was working no problem at all. By the way, this login problem happens on a different phone of mine as well.

Anyone has the same issue? Any pointers?

I just created a new RWGPS account but it failed also with the same error message. Also tried to uninstall (and deleting the relevant folders under ../data) and reinstall, but that didn't make a difference either.

This is weird.  Hoping to hear some feedback!

Let's hope this was just a minor problem with RWG. I just this second tried my account on Bike Track and it worked fine (I selected the RideWithGPG item in the menu and it pulled up my list of routes).

All is not lost however. If you are having a problem logging into their server from your device, go to your account on web browser and select VIEW of your new route, you'll find an "Export TCX File" button on the left. Tap this and create a TCX file. Then copy this file to the TCX folder on your device. You can now load your route that way. Hopefully the connectivity issue will clear up, as I can't see that it's a result of anything that changed on the app.

Thanks for the feedback, Steve. My login problem continues. Meanwhile, I'll workaround using the file import method you suggested.

I'm curious if I'm the only person having this issue, which would be real weird!

I am having the same problem as well ("Failed to log into RideWithGPS").  I double checked my RWGPS credentials via the web version of RWGPS, and even re-entered them in Bike Tracker.  

FYI,  I'm using Bike Tracker v 1.1.33.

Same problem here, have verified my credentials by logging into the website but get the error when trying to sign in using Bike Tracker.

Same here.  I logged in directly to RWGPS and verified my credentials were good.

Anyone presently having a problem logging into RWG...

I dealt with a problem similar to this a year or two ago, and I just couldn't duplicate the issue logging in with my own account. The user who'd reported the problem gave me his RWG login credentials and I was quickly able to duplicate the error (and thus fix it).

If anyone is willing to change their password TEMPORARILY and provide with your login (via a private email message of course, to pbex...@gmail.com) I can log in under your credentials and see what actually goes wrong. Once I've found the cause, you can change your password back.

I tried the email and password you sent me in email, but unfortunately they worked just fine on my two devices. I'm not sure what might be going on her, unless your provider is blocking the port that RWG uses. Does this problem occur on both WiFi and Cellular connections? If it only fails on one of them, then port blocking might be the issue, but if it occurs on both, that's unlikely.

Are you running any 3rd-party apps on your phone that might affect connectivity?

If you are running Build 33, then please go to the SETTINGS and turn on the "Write LOG File" option under "Diagnostics". I just added this feature to the latest build to help track down a different problem, but it MIGHT help here.

Once you've made the setting, CLOSE THE APP and restart it. Now make changes to the email or password to try and get things to connect. When it fails, close the app and look on your phone for a folder at the following path:

/data/LOG

In this folder, you should find text files with names that reflect the date and time they were recorded. Please email copies of the files your app creates and I'll see if they contain ANY useful information.  If it doesn't, I'll create a new build that specifically collects detailed failure information when connecting to RWG and we can try this again.

I've just recently posted Build 34, which provides a fix for those unable to get Bike Tracker to log into RWG.

Saw the new updated version (build 34), installed it and now everything is back to working order. Great job! Please ignore the email I sent you with my RWGPS credentials.

Just got a new phone, Moto G6 and it has Android 9.  Bike Tracker no longer logs into my RideWithGPS account.  I double checked the userid and password.  I'm running the latest version (34) of the app.

It's been a while since I used Bike Tracker but needed to explore a new route. It would not connect to RWGPS but last time I used (several years ago :O ) it worked fine. I logged in to RWGPS on the PC and made sure the password in BT was current and still no go.

I reinstalled both RWGPS and BT on my phone in my unsuccessful attempts to get this working. I have an older Android running droid 6.0.1 - could that be messing me up? I resorted to sending an exported TCX file to the phone and had a successful voice guided ride using your excellent app.

Still got a few new routes to try out this season, so any help to get the login working would be appreciated.

I have an old Galaxy S4 that I use to track my rides. I like the S4 because its GPS is more accurate than any other phone I've tested. I generally keep all my phones as up-to-date as possible with custom ROMs after official support is over, but I stopped at Marshmallow on this particular model because Lineage from Nougat on up doesn't support Russian satellites and provides only locks via GPS satellites. I'm having no trouble logging into RideWithGPS on this device. Now granted, you probably aren't running a Lineage custom ROM, but if the problem were related to Marshmallow specifically, then it wouldn't work for me either.

All I can really suggest is that you provide me (in a private email of course, and NOT here on this group) your username and password to RideWithGPS and I'll try logging in on my various devices.

To anyone following this thread, the problem has been identified and fixed as of Build 35. It occurred for anyone using certain non-alpha-numeric characters in their RWG password.

Steve's fix was spot on and was quickly delivered. Although I thanked him privately, I would like to thank him more publicly as his hard work should not go unappreciated. He has produced a brilliant app and deserved all the support, yep even monetary donations, he can get.
