Hello again,

First time using Bike Tracker with RWGPS today, and I ended up hearing only ride data such as distance, time used and etc, but I didn't hear any turn-by-turn navigation directions at all.

The route was one I saved in RWGPS that I loaded into Bike Tracker.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello xanadu x
There is extensive help on the phone
BUT you might find it easier to read on a PC so   https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/bike-tracker-support-group/Gc4HS1C0Uwo
this has a copy of all the help text
AND the Word version includes a Quick Start Guide

However, your immediate problem is no turn info ... maybe the RWGPS file didn't have any turn info ...

Perhaps you can add it manually in RWGPS ?
Alternatively, you can load up that RWGPS route into Plotaroute.com, where it's easy to trace the route as follows ...

If you copy routes from other sites into Plotaroute, they don’t always have the turn navigation when they arrive.

However, Plotaroute has a superb feature to handle this …

Once your RWGPS route is on screen, if the turn info isn’t available, select Create > Trace a route

That puts your route in the background.  You can then expand the map and draw a new route over the top of it

This creates a new route complete with turns.

Note that when I download routes for BT I use these settings … see attached image

Save as TCX.png

Hello Colin,

Thanks for the detailed info and instructions!  I'll look into the help files for my next rides.  Meanwhile, I double checked the RWGPS route in question that I loaded into BT and saw it does have a cuesheet of turn-by-turn directions (see attached image).  I'll check if a manual upload into BT will make a difference.  Before I try again, is there a way to confirm within BT if a loaded RWGPS route has the turn-by-turn directions attached or one can only tell by starting a ride?

Thanks again for the help.

Unfortunately, I don’t know the answer to that.

I’ve just looked at a route on my phone through Bike Tracker and there is nothing obvious that tells me it has turn info.

Steve would be the best person to advise on that.

I have never used RWGPS myself, apart from copying some routes created by other people.  Those mostly (or perhaps all) did not have turn info, but it might have been the method I used to export them. (Is there another way ??)

Anyway, you can try my previous suggestion to add the turn info.

Good luck !

xandu x: Can you please upload a copy of the cached RWG file from your phone to me. You can either upload it to this discussion group, or if you'd prefer not to make it public, you can upload it to me at my email address: pbex...@gmail.com.

The above assumes that you entered your username and password into Bike Track, and then loaded the route directly from their server using the "RideWithGPS" option on the menu. When a route is loaded in this way, a cached copy is stored in the \data\RWG folder on your phone.

If you instead generated a TCX file and copied that onto the phone, could you please send me the TCX file in question.

Either way, I can look at the file to see if it has turn-by-turn directions in it, and if it does, I can load it into my copy of Bike Tracker. Unlike the release build, my copy has a test facility built in where I can generate a TCX file called test.tcx that contains a short snippet of a route. This will be used to simulate me riding along that route to see how my app responds to your cached or TCX file.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for taking time to reply! Please see attached the rwg file you wanted, straight from the data/RWG directory. Hope it helps. By the way, I did access/load the route in question from within BT after inputting my Rwgp user name and password in the app.

I downloaded your RWG file and I loaded it into my phone. I checked where your route ran in Dan Diego and I created a short test route for my app to simulate. As I noted in a previous message, I created this mechanism to allow me to SIMULATE actually riding on a route I couldn't physically get to. The simulator feeds GPS coordinates to the actual routing engine in the app, just as though I'd been riding there myself.

At any rate, Bike Tracker produced audible turn-by-turn instructions as my simulation followed the route, so it seems that everything is working as expected.

So, that brings me to next obvious question: When you tap the menu button (the 3 dots in the top-right corner) is the 5th item on the list "Turn ON Audio" or "Turn OFF Audio"? If your app says "Turn ON Audio", it means that you have audio MUTED, and so you won't hear anything. In addition, you'll see [Silent] next to the name of the selected Profile on the home screen. Tap this menu option to turn on (UNMUTE) the audio feedback.

Beyond that, I really don't know what to tell you. Your RWG file contains turn instructions, those instructions play on my phone when I simulate your ride. Except the possibility that your audio has been muted, all I can think of is that your phone isn't loud enough to hear while you are riding. What are you using to hear the instructions? Earbuds, an amplified speaker, or are you relying on the built-in speaker?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the testing and the further trouble shooting suggestions. I'll look into the audio options and will do another test ride in a few days.
