I’m looking to get in about a 100 mile gravel ride on Saturday, starting early-ish (8-9). With the wind direction it looks best to head South. Anybody else up for this? I can post definite start time/place tomorrow.

Best Regards,

Count me in.  I was thinking the same thing.

OK, might be just Mike and I. I will aim to be at CoJ when they open at 8am, but I will need a cup of coffee before we leave, so setting off at 8:15-ish. We can maybe try to reach Tama, unless the wind dictates otherwise – or I am open to alternative suggestions.

Looks like a really fast ride home...

Well, it certainly wasn’t pretty, and there were some desperate times trying to maintain even 9mph in the last 10 miles, but I finally made it to Toledo/Tama around 1pm. There seems to be a lot of loose gravel around now, and some evidence of grading taking place already in Black Hawk and Tama counties. This stopped much of the ride home from being as fast as it could have been….. Found that a short section of the route I had planned turned out to be B road (190th St. from H to J, just South of Hwy 96), but it was plenty dry.

Mike, sorry you weren’t feeling good today. Probably be repeating this ride, or something similar, in 2 weeks time.

Robert.
