I plan to be there. Is there an agenda or any issues we should focus
on?

One item he's mentioned over the phone is that he would like suggestions for bike lanes in the Buckhead area as an alternative to Peachtree St, as they are running into roadblocks that may prevent getting the Ptree St bike lane extended.

That's unfortunate. In my mind bike lanes on Peachtree are key. 1)
there are many destinations along Peachtree and 2) it would form the N/
S spine of a bike network through Atlanta. Of course alternate
routes down Piedmont and Paces Ferry are possible, but not the ideal.

I had heard that bike lanes were in jeopardy through the heart of
Buckhead (ptree/paces ferry/roswell rd) where the Streets of Buckhead
development is going in. Is that what your talking about being in
jeopardy? Hopefully you're not talking about Phase 2 or 3 of the
Peachtree Boulevard project to take the bike lanes north to Ptree-
Dunwoody or south to Shadowlawn. That would be a shame.

I don't know all the details, but agree with you about the importance of Peachtree...

Hopefully we'll learn Friday where things stand and why, and then can decide together how to proceed.

Here's a summary of the meeting with Jim Durrett with BCID and Brian
(?) with GA-DOT?. Nancy/Steve/Rebecca, feel free to add any other
relevant items I may have missed.

Turns out the meeting was mainly about alternatives for bike
accommodations related Phase 3 of the Peachtree Blvd project to extend
it south from Maple Drive to Shadowlawn. The work is mainly to
address congestion with cars turning left along that stretch with a
scaled back median, etc.. According to Jim Durrett it would cost $4
million to purchase the ROW needed to include bike lanes. As an
alternative they were looking to reroute the bike lane down another
street leading to the Buckhead Village. We discussed a number of
ideas. Here's a few of them. Jim was to keep us updated as the
plans move forward.

* Peachtree Bike lane would turn down Maple Drive and continue to
East Paces Ferry and go west till it reconnects with Peachtree Road.
* Signage at Ptree/Maple indicating bike lane route continues on
Maple.
* Sharrows to be considered on Peachtree from Maple to Shadowlawn.
* In the future as Maple to Shadowlawn densifies Bike Lanes could
be installed as part of the new development.
* Bike box to be consider for Ptree/Maple intersection to
facilitate left turn off Peachtree.
* East Paces Ferry (including GA400 ped bridge) to be considered
as an alternate east/west bike route through Buckhead from Paces/Ptree
to Lenox Marta station
* Bidding for Phase 2 of Peachtree Blvd (GA400 to Ptree-Dunwoody)
was open as of Friday 12/11.

Kevin, thanks for the summary. This looks good. I was very encouraged
by how open they were to suggestions and hope that, due to the
prohibitive cost of that block of bike lane, they were willing to
consider sharrows on Peachtree for those who prefer the most direct
route, while accommodating those who prefer dedicated facilities by
routing them to another bike lane.
