Hi All

I got kicked off the Senaite forums on Friday for challenging double standards and objecting to false interpretations of an earlier post. Full story to follow if the differences cannot be resolved.

Having been on the receiving end of autocratic censorship before - remember John H KoolAid Jones of 'It is good to be king' fame  and his FOSS FUD - this is nothing compared to what activists had to deal with during the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Freedom of speech is now firmly cemented in our admirable new constitution.

Except for curtailing hate speech, censorship imho does not make for healthy communities, especially in Open Source where freedom and transparency are fundamental. Airing opinions in open robust debate is much more constructive than hiding from inconvenient truths behind political correctness.

Decorum and netiquette are established through self regulatory dynamics - don't adhere and get ignored or cut down. 'We may dislike what you say, but will defend your right to say it'. Much more annoying are subscribers wanting to be spoon-fed without research or trying things themselves.

Like with this post, views expressed by participants are their own.

Hi All

It is not in Bika's interest to hinder Senaite progress or have such an impression persist. The misconception created by the interpretation of my post re Froid, Gitter Sept 28, Ramon Bartl, stands to be corrected:
  • I only wrote about the Froid project and its vulnerability and a setback suffered earlier this year, and not about Bika or Senaite. We do hear negative comment about the Senaite evolution from time to time but remain mightily impressed with the technical advances brought about and continue to commit our code there. See The Year that was

  • 'Froid' is a web generated acronym for Free and Open Source Instrument Middleware. For now we need to protect our already big investment. The code sure will be published when stable and supported by good enough documentation to make it easy for other LIMS and instrument vendors to add their instruments.

The main use case we are looking to address first is graphed here, serial interfacing remains the toughest by far. We are also looking at piping LIMS and EMR/HIS interfacing through OpenHIM for its validation, HL7 FHIR capabilities, and connecting other health care applications.
Sincerely
Lemoene
