Hello.

What are the steps required to interface an instrument with Bika Health? I have a COBAS Integra 400 Plus.

Thanks.

Hi Raz

What are the steps required to interface an instrument with Bika Health? I have a COBAS Integra 400 Plus.

If it does CSV results output it can be added to the system with some coding as described in the Wiki at Instrument interfacing. If you don't have access to coders, get us an example file and we'll put it up for as an feature request and see what kind of bids we get. Often well below $1k.

If the instrument does serial RS232 only, we'll need to investigate further. In that regard, the Cobas C111, C311 and E411 just slipped off the scope of a current project for which we are doing the Cobas Taqman 48's for delivery mid February and release soon after.

See list, Supported Instrument Interfaces, to which we hope to add some more coming in from Bika Collective coders working on their own interfaces.

Re. Bi-Directional, could be a bit more. In your configuration, does the instrument:
  • do file uploads? Health's worksheets can be exported in its format. We'll need that format / example too

  • read barcodes off sample vials?
  • If not, can you use a hand-held scanner to scan in Sample IDs

If the instrument does serial RS232 only, we'll need to investigate further.

Could well be from a brochure, System interfaces RS 232 serial interface, bi-directional, inbuilt modem for remote diagnostics access.

If needed, I'll find out from the vendors, there was a mention of PC based middleware for the Integra 400 Plus, I could be mistaken.

lemoene,

thank you your reply. cobas integra 400 plus is a fully automated chemistry analyser. most labs have it connected to the LIS via a middleware such as Data Innovations. it does use a RS232 interface to communicate with the host computer. this project I am involve in, is for a community college where I teach clinical chemistry and immunology. I thought it would be wonderful if the students can get a "full" laboratory experience, but also use time more efficiently not manually programming each sample. in other words, I want to use barcoded samples. the instrument should be able to query the LIS database for the sample information, run the tests and then report back the results to the LIS.

i am far away from my dream, but I am determined to do it. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Raz

thank you your reply. cobas integra 400 plus is a fully automated chemistry analyser. most labs have it connected to the LIS via a middleware such as Data Innovations.

You could get a price for a DI interface - I think you'll have to buy base station software too + you need PC hardware - and then we can go one of 2 ways:
  • adapt an existing Bika interface to swop files with DI

  • use that budget to have the interface developed for Bika on an Open Source licence for everybody's benefit, the same way Bika's existing interfaces came about.

In the medium term we are planning to establish Bika's instrument integration module as a free standing FOSS Instrument Server that all LIMS and instrument vendors can contribute interfaces too.

it does use a RS232 interface to communicate with the host computer.
this project I am involve in, is for a community college where I teach clinical chemistry and immunology. I thought it would be wonderful if the students can get a "full" laboratory experience, but also use time more efficiently not manually programming each sample. in other words, I want to use barcoded samples.

The instrument does read barcoded information off the vials thus?

the instrument should be able to query the LIS database for the sample information,

Is there a need for any more information than the Sample ID to reference the results with or will that be enough. If yes, then the instrument does not have to query the LIS. If the instrument reads 2d 'QR codes' more information can be included.

run the tests and then report back the results to the LIS.

Please make absolutely sure from your vendor that the host computer cannot dump the results as a CSV or similar file.  We can easily customise and import for that. It won't be live interfacing but already reduce human error and improve turn-around-time.

i am far away from my dream,

Easy now!-) This is closer than you think.

but I am determined to do it. I'll keep you posted.

Please reply to the above and we take it from there.

Hi Thaer, thanks for posting, and all the best for '19

i need equation for calc BCS "CHECK SUM" for integra 40. can u help mee

Calculations in the manual, i cannot help you with the formula itself though, please try your instrument vendor.

The Integra interface is available yes, https://github.com/senaite/senaite.core/pull/947
