The new Weekend Warriors SIG will be meeting again on Saturday August 13 from 9:00 until 11:00 AM in the upstairs meeting room at the Bainbridge Library. Note that the meeting is starting a half hour earlier than usual this month. Come prepared to spend a couple of hours working on one line of your research while getting tips from BIGS Mentors as well as sharing strategies with other members that may be working in your area. This session is limited to 10 people so please contact Anna DuPen if you want to reserve a spot. It's highly recommended that you bring a laptop computer. If you don't have one, let Anna know as there are a few extra laptops available. This should provide you with a great way to push forward on your research and share good tips with your peers as well.
The BIGS Computing SIG finally has a regular meeting time, the second Friday of each month from 10 AM until noon in the upstairs meeting room at the Bainbridge Library. Put it on your calendar!
Don't forget that BIGS scholarships are still available. Any member in good standing can apply to the Priscilla Greenlees Scholarship Fund for funds to take a genealogy related class. Individual awards are in the $25 to $50 range and there's a maximum of one scholarship per membership each year. Funds may be used for transportation, class materials and class fees. You can submit your application by email or in person to Betty or Claire.
Outreach at the Madison Avenue Retirement Center, a program where BIGS members meet with residents to discuss genealogy, is continuing on Tuesday September 27 at 2:30 PM. Please contact Mary if you are interested in helping.
Check the BIGS Facebook page between meetings to find out what's going on with BIGS or genealogy in general. This is a place to share research tips, new websites, and breakthroughs or to just ask questions. Just click on the Facebook link on our website and become a "friend" of BIGS.
