I'm trying to use that modem with a Linux box. I've done quite a bit
of searching on the net to work out what to do and i've gotten it all
working just about except for one thing. I dont know if BigPond uses
PPPOE or PPPOA. I have instructions to setup PPPOA but i keep getting
"authentication failed" messages, so then i thought BigPond might be
using PPPOE.
I downloaded the Roaring Penguin package and hoped it would help, but
the adsl setup asks me which interface to connect to (e.g. eth0), but
since the modem is USB i dont know what to enter in.
Can anyone shed some light on getting the Alcatel SpeedTouch USB modem
to work under linux for Telstra BigPond BroadBand ADSL?
Thanks alot.
Any luck with Alcatel SpeedTouch USB? I am also having troubles
getting it to fire up but I get different errors as I am using
Smoothwall not the roaring pengiun as I am yet to see any real "good
news" with this New Telstra USB modem - Ohhh to be Enthernet and have
CC rocking... Anyway www.Smoothwall.org have just relelase a their
Beta 2 Bullet as it supports the Alcatel SpeedTouch USB modem - plus
you need the Alcatel Linux update (alcatels site).
Terminating on signal 15. !! Is the error I am getting as the system
dials - the overall install and network config seams pretty straight
forward I think I am just missing something very easy! Any ideas
greatly appriecieted.
To answer your question PPPoE is Telstra. This typical BS PDF doc from
Telstra states this http://www.telstra.com.au/adsl/docs/adslcpe.pdf.
Hope that helps.
