Sorry if this question has been asked before.
Can somebody tell me why it is when I disconnect my router,
(physically that is) I get an IP address of 203.45.xx.xxx and yet if I
put the router back in line the IP address changes to 203.45.yy.yyy.
Therefore, with messenger and other programmes, even with the DMZ
function selected I cannot send files or use the talk or video
function on messenger. The reason I use this is my daughters are in
Perth, I'm in Sydney and they like to send me pictures and vice versa.
I would love to buy a web cam for them so we can chat, but I am
forever having to take the cable out of the router and put it directly
into the cable modem therefore reducing the securtiy of the system.
I have read up on all the help files in messenger found (according to
them) the ports used for sending and recieving and opened them up, but
this should even be resolved with the DMZ command. The messenger help
file also talks about IP to IP and a change inbetween by your IP may
cause problems, therefore I think this may be my problem.
So as Professor Julius Sumner Miller used to say "Why is it so" and if
someone can explain or more importantly has come up with a solution
I'd love to know,
Thanks
Tony
And Merry Xmas to all in the group
