Hi Murali,

I have beeb reading your blog from last 1 week. Its quiet an eye
opener and informative. I am female, 32 yrs, height 5 ft 2 inches, mom
of 4 yr old daughter. I am obese, right now 80 kgs. I am not
interested in body building, but still I want to be strong, have some
muscle mass and want really strong abs n legs and burn fat. I want to
increase my stamina and fitness level. My kid is very hyperactive, and
I feel bad when I have to deny playing with her because I am running
short on stamina and energy. Also, I had slipped disc from the time
when she was 8 months old, and since then doc asked me not to pickup
her , and I have terribly guilty feeling for the same.

Can you please suggest me diet, which is neutritionally complete and
will not make me starve or lose muscle.
I am vegeterian , though not very strict. I eat non veg occassionally,
but I do eat eggs regularly.

I am not in india, and do not wish to join gym right now. I have
dumbells, resistance bands and fitness ball at home. Pls suggest me
workout routine too.

Hi Kirti,

This particular blog can help you in lot of ways:
http://biglee-murali.blogspot.com/2008/06/home-workout-and-diet-for-women.html

Regarding slipped disc problem -?
Try doing swimming on the floor

lie flat on the floor with your stomach on the floor with both your
arms straight up.
Now lift the right arm and left leg up and hold it for a couple of
seconds. This will put pressure on the exact problem area (lower back)
Now come back to starting position
Now lift your left arm and right leg up and hold it for a couple of
seconds.
Repeat this for about 20 times on each side alternately. Do at least
three sets daily so that you will be strengthening your lowerback
quickly.
This is no prescription or exact cure for your problem but this will
strengthen the muscles around the problem area with will give you
more comfort and confidence.

Do write back if you have any queries.

All the very best for your fitness goal..

Cheers,

thank u so much Murali. Will nomral swimming also help me overcome this problem fast ? If yes, then I can plan to go for swimming daily.

regarding diet : I will plan based on ur inputs in the blog. want to know, if taking green tea is important ? I usually dont take tea/coffee etc. I will send you the diet for u to review once.

Does doing cardio everyday does any harm? I have almost 25 kgs to lose, so thought, it would help me doing cardio 5/6 days a week. I have started doing swimming on the floor as u suggestged.

Are workout routines given on beachbody.com effective ?

thanks
kirti

Hi Kriti,

First of all sorry for the late response...

Yes swimming is a wonderful movement to overcome back pain problem,
but entering swimming pool with very weak lower back muscle may be a
bad idea. So you should plan to strengthen your lower back muscle for
about 2-3 weeks and then go into swimming. this will help you reach
two goals in one. Strengthen and shape up you body quicker and also
helps in improving lower back stability.

The basic idea of not giving cardio daily is that - Cardio activities
easily makes you feel bored and lack of interest in what you do can be
a bad way to go. So lets begin with 3 days a week. And then slowly add
one more additional day of a completely different cardio activity and
progress in our goal and increase our motivation. The key is to keep
the motivation growing....

In my opinion the web site that you quoted, means business and not
much to it.

One more thing - Do not get carried away by the quick fix
advertisements where they tell that you can lose 10 pounds in a months
and as such.
Keep your goals realistic so that you can retain what ever you
achieve. a lose of 1.2-2 kgs a month is ideal for you....

all the very best..

Cheers,

Hi Kirthi,

Your diet looks very balanced and planned.

I do not have any modifications to it but i do have some pointers
which can improve your diet.

Fruit - When u say fruit, choose fruits which have less sugar content
like pineapple, citric fruit, water melon etc

Salad - Try to bring in lot of varied color in it.. Each color
signifies a vitamin and mineral

6.30 dinner - you can reduce the amount of dal and add few egg whites
in place of it.

Adding one or two egg whites in a couple of other meals will help you
with protein content and you can cut back couple of spoons of rice or
half chapathi instead of it

All the very best..
