I haven't read the memory book you recommended. I have read The Memory Book by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas. They use the phonetic alphabet substituting for numbers and alphabet characters. Harry Lorayne has gone into an audience of 1000 and memorized and called back their names. Jerry Lucas was working on memorizing the Bible when I read the book.

I thought the technique was new and unique until I read about the same method in a book of William James, psychologist of the 1800's.
