Dear Riders
An update on the Kent courses situation. I’m not one to pass the buck and blame others, but we have been seriously let down here by British Cycling.
We patiently waited for the findings and decisions of a newly set up road commission at regional level, of considering the situation of marshals stopping traffic in Kent races.
Once they had reached their decision that races had to be moved to Surrey or Sussex or be cancelled, they said they would give us a list of courses that could be used. This list they said would be based on usage of them so far this year and geographical needs of the League.
Weeks later, the list was finally sent out. We chose our course for the 18th from the list supplied, then to be told that it probably wouldn’t get approved by the police due to over use. This answer slipped out in conversation today, another week wasted.
We have been forced to take the following decisions with the races, just to ensure they happen. I know it’s a long way from ideal and certainly not what we had in mind for the league at the AGM. But realistically we’ve little alternative. Geographically the courses just wouldn’t work for the organising clubs.
18th June race at Benenden/Cranbrook will now take place at Cyclopark with the 3rd/4th race at 10am, being 90 minutes long. The 3rd / 4th womens race will be at 12pm and 90 minutes long.
30th July race at Kenardington will now take place on the 29th July at Cyclopark. The 3rd / 4th race will be at 12pm and 50km long. The 2nd / 3rd race will take place at 2pm and be 80km long.
13th August race at Horsmonden will now take place at Fowlmead Country Park. The 3rd / 4th women’s race will be at 10am and be 50km long. The 2nd / 3rd race will take place at 1.30pm and be 80km long.
Our regional competitions administrator has been informed of all the changes, so they should appear on the BC site shortly.
The easiest thing as far as entries are concerned is to reject all entries received so far and start again with a clean slate. Entries will not open until details have been changed on the BC site.
We hope you understand the situation and except our sincere apologies for not being able to deliver what we promised.
Regards
Alan
