Beyblade is a 2001 Japanese collaboration anime television series based on Takao Aoki's manga series of the same name, which itself is based on the Beyblade spinning top game from Takara Tomy. The 51-episode series was produced by Madhouse under the direction of Toshifumi Kawase.
The director was very specific about instrument choices (you'll notice there's very little synthesizer/electronica) and it's mainly traditional orchestra/acoustic instruments. I worked with a translator on the Japan side at D-rights and all the music requests/revisions and so on were through them. The schedule was so tight that they were animating an episode as I was composing it and then they'd edit video to score on many occasions. Very interesting!
The first Beyblade Burst anime premiered in Japan in April 2016, followed by the Beyblade Burst God (Beyblade Burst Evolution) "second season" in April 2017, and then Beyblade Burst Chōzetsu in April 2018. Beyblade Burst began airing on Canada's Teletoon channel in September 2016, and then premiered on Disney XD for two weeks in December 2016. Daisuki began streaming the series with English subtitles later in December 2016, and English-dubbed episodes are available digitally via Disney XD's digital platforms and the Beyblade Burst YouTube channel.
