Hi everyone,

As you may know, the 5th meetup is taking place in the Accenture
office in Brussels. To attract a bit of a crowd from Accenture itself,
it would be good if we can put at least 1 or 2 presentations on the
agenda. Last time Davy suggested to do a presentation around graph
databases in general or about Neo4j in particular.

Who has any other ideas or topics, or who would like to present
something?

I can also give a more general presentation around Hadoop or NoSQL,
which would be quite general for regulars, but might be interesting
for newcomers.

What do you think?

Hey Nicolas,

I'd be happy to talk about my experiences with Hadoop and HBase at
Last.fm and Massive Media if that helps. Hearing about practical use
cases should be useful for newcomers to get a better idea of what
these technologies are capable of, and sharing some real world
experiences and lessons learned could be interesting for regulars as
well I guess.

Great ideas!!! Something more practical as use cases are always more comprehensible.

We could also do a review of the Facebook whitepaper on their use of HBase / MR?

If you guys are going to talk Hadoop and HBase I'm definitely coming! It is true, I have just started with it, and a real life implementation would help me to fully grasp its potential.

Ooh, and has anyone of you already heard/worked with Google Tables (new format in google docs)? It seems like they are going to enter the "open data" market and, as always, change the game. I was quite impressed with this. For people who haven't seen it yet, here's the link: http://www.google.com/fusiontables/Home/

Grtz,
Cedric

I think that that Google App is/was called Fusion Tables right? It's not really a true datastore if I'm mistaken, but more a tool to work on datasets?

It existed already some time (few years?) in the Labs and now it comes to GApps?
Ah, indeed, I can see the tables in my free GAccount. Neat!

We are doing quite some stuff with apache avro and zookeeper lately, I
have to see, if I could share some of our experiences, but I have to
ask for permission to give a talk on that, if people would be
interested.

We have a group within Accenture called PIM and they are active in :
- Business Intelligence
- Master Data Management
- Analytics
It would be nice to have presentations in this area to attract people
from the PIM group. I think that Hadoop can definitely fit into these
topics, so a presentation on Hadoop (extended with HBase) would be
nice.

Steven Noels will give an introduction titled : "Welcome to the Age of
Data".

I propose the following agenda then:

1. Steven Noels - Welcome to the Age of Data, an introduction to Big Data
2. Klaas Bosteels - Hadoop and HBase in action, practical use cases from Last.fm and Massive Media
3. Davy Suvee - Introduction to Graph databases

Still in the pipeline for future meetups:
* André about Apache Avro and Zookeeper
* A review of Facebooks whitepaper on their use of HBase & MapReduce

Let me know what you think,
Nicolas

That's a very good proposal Nicolas. I will create an invitation for
the Accenture people. I want to have this invitation out before the
end of the year.
