Hi there,

I am wondering:

- "the zimmo data arrives in time": What does this mean? Is the data
already available somewhere?
- Is there some plan to publish the data/code on something like github.
- Is there some kind of NDA (non disclosure agreement) on the data?
- Is there already a license decided for the generated code (the ideal
in my view being ASL2)?

If the data/code could be published under liberal license, we could come
to a situation where the code is produced on github between the meetups,
and further reviewed/hacked during those meetups (Each contributor could
work in its own branch, the developer branches being merged in the
master branch during the meetups).

Sorry if the following has been discussed during the last meetups.

I will be busy on January 5 until 20:45, so the best I could do is to
come online (via skype if possible) at that time. However, if github...
are setup, I could try to write down something in the meantime.

Thx in advance for your feedbacks,

Eric

If the zimmo data arrives in time, then we will load these in our HBase
setup using Sqoop in the first part of the evening. In the second part
of the evening, we will start writing code to fill the HBase zimmo-geo
column family with parameters ex...

Hi Eric,

The minutes of the first workshops are in the comment section of their respective meetup page @

http://www.meetup.com/bigdatabe/events/43126262/
http://www.meetup.com/bigdatabe/events/43126492/

The content of these minutes should answer most of your questions. But in short, we have created a NDA document which is to be signed by the attendants of the workshops before they can work with the zimmo dataset. Data storage has been arranged, and the sysadmin of zimmo.be is ought to transfer the data one of these days. Awaiting this data transfer, we have created an HBase setup and explored OpenStreetMaps during the last workshops.

The NDA states that the outcome of the project can be used by zimmo.be and bigdata.be, but avoids further third party usage. So we thought that the ASL2 was not a good idea. At the moment, we therefore decided to host our work in a private GIT on bitbucket which is free up to 5 users. Indeed, we intend to use this repo to continue our work in between the workshops, and use the latter to discuss the ongoing results. But as long as we are awaiting the zimmo data transfer, the coding has not actually started yet. :)

As more people get interested in this project, then we might need to come up with another communication strategy to keep those people "in-the-loop". I'll get this on the agenda for the next meetup!
