Hi people,

today i read something about Google OS. I believe that the info given
is correct ! One among the blog says like this,

" Google is launching a direct challenge to Microsoft’s dominance of
the operating system market with plans to release its own OS, based on
Google’s Chrome web browser. The system will rely heavily on cloud
computing and will run initially on netbooks, though Google says it
also hopes to port the system to desktop PCs.

The operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era
where there was no web," say Google product management VP Sundar
Pichai and engineering director Linus Upson. “It’s our attempt to re-
think what operating systems should be.

Chrome OS will be based on an open-source Linux platform, but the
majority of its applications will run in the “cloud” of external data
servers, in a similar manner to Google’s Gmail email client."

Share your thoughts on above statements, how the cloud be, what kinds
of application can develop etc..

Can someone here comment on - "The operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era
where there was no web". What does this mean? I mean the as far as the support from OS is concerned, its the TCP/IP stack for communication over internet. What else could be part of base OS?

1. Replace OS by OE. OE stands for 'Operating Environment'.
some companies are little loose, in their usage of the phrase.

2. You press a button on your cellphone and the environment with
connectivity (shown by stick height) comes up. Now apko, net
kay darshan hongay.

3. Sasta netbook, netpad, netfone can run ch-ch-romeo and
ch-ch-browser. Then you can access ch-maili, ch-docu,
ch-at-alk and ch-earch within ch-ch-browser.

Now you are in the cloud-9 for Rs 199 only !

(replace 'ch' by 'Live' for another version).

Now you are in HMC-9 (His Masters Cloud) for Rs 99 only !

you ask, what else could be part of base OS ?
re-mix of ideas from an-droid and u-phone.
with topping of hype-sauce and hoopl-onions.

Peace !

Open Source has components that constitute "a" cloud offering !

As Namita mentioned in her recent talk, the economic imperative
of cloud computing comes from the "completeness" of the solution.

Here is an attempt to provide "the" scale so that "cloud"
becomes commercially viable along with the existing apps and
infrastructure.

eg. would you detect any difference in accessing gmail,
if the backend be hosted on server cluster or a cloud ?

Most application developers will "get" APIs which they can use
to create/consume data. End-users continue to interact with the
'Web'y interface.

The "real" money is in the infrastructure game and that is
something to tune to !

thanks
Saifi.
