Hi, I have posted this question on moodle forum as well, but havent got any useful feedback yet, thought I'd post here in case some one may have some ideas. I read alot of postings on goodle also but didnt find anything that can help me.

In one post, it said, try to change mysql.default_socket = /var/run/mysql.sock in /etc/php/php.ini  but I dont know how to do this.

After installing moodle on Ubuntu server in ec2, I get this error when I try to http://hostname/moodle

Error: Database connection failed.

It is possible that the database is overloaded or otherwise not running properly.

The site administrator should also check that the database details have been correctly specified in config.php

Hi Yashar,

In the future, don't double post as it only increases the effort of people to help you.

For users who are reading this thread, I'll repeat my response.  We recommend you make sure your Moodle setup is working first ... and if it was, and now it's not, then revert back the changes you've made until you start with a working Moodle setup.

The error your are encountering is a common Moodle problem.  Google should help you find lots of sites (or discussion groups) where people have posted a similar problem.

Also, if this is a new Moodle set, we would recommend you start with the latest version of Moodle.  Moodle 1.9 is very old, and you'll find Moodle 2.5 will let you install plug-ins directly from within Moodle itself (no more downloading and unzipping files).

Regards,... Fred
