Hi Fajar,

There are many settings you can change for the video settings, see

If you want less lag, probably the easiest is to turn off the h.264 encoding for the client.  There is about a one second lag in the video due to the client buffering frames for encoding.

To disable h.264 encoding, set the following value in config.xml to "false"

enableH264 = "true"

and then restart the server

  sudo bbb-conf --clean

At this point, clients will transmit video using the older Sorensen codec and it will use more bandwidth.

Regards,.. Fred

Hi Farjar,

If you've turned off the h.264 encoder, then the video frame rate is getting pretty close to the fastest achievable with BigBlueButton.

You can try lowering the values of

videoQuality = "100"

and

camQualityPicture = "90"

which might yield a bit faster, but just to calibrate expectations -- you won't get real-time synchronization between audio and video as the media streams (audio/video) go through two separate paths on the BigBlueButton server.

Hi Fajar,

In my own experience, video and audio delays > 3 seconds are usually related to network problems. You say you have 2 Mbps to each branch, but how is that conected? Are you using MPLS, PPTP; is it connecting to each other using DSL, Cable or a Fiber port? Depending on which technology you use, that makes a lot of difference. Latency and Jitter are also big enemies here, try keeping both as low as possible.

In the BBB FAQ is well written that the developers recommend a 100 Mbit connection, but when you´re dealing with a conferencing tool such as BBB, all networking factors should be analyzed. Personally, I run my BBB box here at my university on a 20 Mbit port, and it always goes smooth, cause we´re plugged in a switch that has direct fiber connection to majors telecom companies, hence keeping the latency to our clients as low as possible.

I'd go ahead here and say that I think 2 Mbit doesn't leave much room for a meeting with 2 or more people sharing webcam and audio, I´d suggest you find a way to upgrade that.

Hi Bruno,

Thanks for your respone.
I'm sorry I had a mistake. I mean 2MB = 16 Mbit.
We are using PPTP are connecting using fiber optic that has telecom companies.
The link between head office and branch office we using watchguard
firewall XTM 515, we create vpn tunneling to connect it using
watchguard hub & spoke topology.
Under xtm 515 we are using riverbed for WAN optimization. I monitor
the traffic of the network is not full when we do the web conference.

Thank you.

Hi Fajar,

Just to calibrate your expectations, there is no configuration parameter that you can set to improve the overall video (otherwise we would set it by default in BigBlueButton!).

Instead, as show in earlier posts, there are some parameters you can adjust to tradeoff bandwidth vs. quality.  I googled a bit and found some links that may be helpful in understanding what these parameters do

Another approach is to compare your video update with

and if your getting a faster update, then this is good.  However, if the video is updating more slowly, then you want to review the changes you've made to the default BigBlueButton installation.
