There is a strange problem with screen sharing with bbb-1.1 on mac.
When I try to start screen sharing I get jnlp, run it, get java application running (icon in menu bar, blue rectangle around screen and window from application that screen sharing is working), but main bbb flash application in browser does not detect this java application, and after some time times out with "unable to detect screen sharing".
Tried on two different macs (both with osx 1.7.5), with two different java versions (latest one and not so latest), and 3 different browsers (firefox, safari and chrome). Problem is completely the same.
At the same time bbb-1.0 shares screen completely fine on this macs and bbb-1.1 works fine too, if I try to use it from windows.
What can be the problem, how can I debug it? Thanks!

Hi Alexey,

We put together a video to show how Screen Sharing works on BigBlueButton 1.1 for the Mac, see

You need to have Java installed for it to work.  Try referencing the above video, check that Java is installed (you should find in in the System Preferences), and let us know if the above gets you working.

Regards,... Fred

Of course I have java installed!
As I have written in the original message, I tried with two different java versions (most current and a bit older one), and that java applet is actually running, the problem is only with bbb flash client detecting it.
Also, java applet in bbb-1.0 works fine (as much as I already understand - in 1.0 it is npapi vs external applet in 1.1).
I am a software developer myself, so I can debug the problem better than "please install java" :) Thanks for the answer, anyways!

Hi Alexey,

Got it.  Enable the Java console and then copy and paste what you are getting to this thread.

The problem may be connected to the fact, that we are using older OSX here (10.7.5, we're unable to update to recent versions due to hardware), so there can be some minor incompatibilities, compared to recent osx versions.

Sorry for multiple messages, can't find "edit message" here.
And talking about incompatibilities - 1.0 with npapi works fine on the same osx, so problem should be minor.

That might be the case.

The issue is that the JWS fails to find/load the native libraries.

But the question is, why java is trying to load this native libraries, if they are not present in a system? Or is this native library loaded directly via your code in java app, not by some java library code indirectly? I always thought that due to vm nature of java machine, this cases shouldn't be an issue, it's java machine's job to use correct native libs. Anyways, sorry, I'm a c/c++ dev, don't know much about actually coding in java, so may be saying something stupid.
Nevertheless, applet version of screen sharing in bbb-1.0 works totally fine, so it may be possible to detect this case and use older variant of code on older osx'es (in case if it's part of the code that exists in both versions).

The native libraries are packaged in the jar files.

JWS detects the OS and download the native jars for that OS.

If the native jars has been built on newer version of the OS, then the native library might fail if it needs a newer library available in the OS.

The screensharing in version 1.0 (applet) is different than what is in 1.1 (jws). We haven't implemented any fallback mechanism so that if the JWS fails, then use the applet.

I understand, thanks. So we'll use bbb-1.0 for time being, and I'll try to recompile native libs on 10.7.5, maybe it'll fix the problem.
