Are there any instructions or help on installing BigBlueButton on a
server that is already using port 80 with Apache and/or has a existing
Asterisk implementation?

I currently use Asterisk for our phone system and would love to tie in
our conference room(s) to go into BigBlueButton audio conference. I
think that would be a great option for people that would rather call
in rather than using their PC. Anyways any help or pointers in the
right direction would be great.

Thanks,

Searching the mailing list will give you the best results for setting up Apache.  Nobody has posted step-by-step instructions, but there are a lot of tips in there.

As far as integrating an existing Asterisk install, it's fairly easy.  You just need to configure what extension BBB is dialing into and make sure your dial plan supports that extension.  Then, if you use numeric PINs, people can call from external numbers and enter the same room that those through BBB are in.  We've done this over at http://genericconf.com and it works great.

Hi Keith,

The instructions should be on the archives of the bigblubutton-dev mailing list

In BigBlueButton 0.64 you can reconfigure BigBlueButton to use a
different IP address. For example, to have BigBlueButton
(specifically, nginx) listen to port 8081, use the following command

bbb-conf --setip IP:8081

The default nginx setup will still listen on port 80, so you can
disable it by removing the symbolic link to default in

/etc/nginx/sites-enabled

Note, this isn't using Apache for BigBlueButton, but rather
reconfiguring BigBlueButton to use a different port.

Let us know if you try the above and it doesn't work.

Regards,... Fred

I did that on my local machine and it seems to do the trick. I got a
bit skittish on my live system so I ended up doing a separate system.
FYI I'm doing the cloud computing thing and set it up using Centos5.4
64bit on Rackspace Cloud and it works great.

I even reconfigured asterisk to talk to my main asterisk PBX. I
played around a bit with having my PBX be able to dial into BBB and
also testing BBB to have it's conf rooms dial into my PBX. IT seems i
get the best preformace if I stick with the default and have BBB use
local asterisk for conference and have external sources be able to
dial in.

On a side note, I wanted to get better performance on Asterisk/SIP so
I tried some different codec's but it appears the default is the
best. speex and ilibc were awful for me. Either didn't work or were
jittery. Haven't tried g.729 yet, but might later if this gets used
alot.
