I have Big Blue Button installed as a part of a Moodle site.

Currently, I believe only students registered in a course could be invited or see the session . . . but I wondered if there were some way to invite attendees to view the live stream presentation without being enrolled in the course.

Hi Joel,

> I wondered if there were some way to invite attendees to view the live stream presentation without being enrolled in the course.

There is nothing built-into the Moodle plugin to enable this.  For sessions with users that don't require a login, you could host it with GreenLight, see

This is a separate application -- it doesn't not know about the Moodle courses, but you can generate invite URLs for a session in GreenLight (once you've logged into it using either a valid Google or Twitter account).

The ideal solution is to use Moodle for authentication so an instructor couldn't create sessions in GreenLight unless they first logged into Moodle.  There wold be some programming involved here, but once done it would compliment the capabilities of the BigBlueButtonBN integration for Moodle.

Thanks for sharing the info on GreenLight, however quoting directly from the link " In the meeting everyone is a moderator.." Is there any way of changing this? Giving +25 guests an "opportunity" to interfere ...."which means anyone can make themselves the current presenter" sounds like too much of a challenge to manage especially for younger participants.
Looking forward to your solution.

Students don't see the link and can't share.   The teacher can email the link to any guests to join without needing moodle acct.

This is the user group, but if you have someone technical wanting to try and implement,  posting to bigbluebutton-dev is the right place to start. Would be glad to point someone in the right direction.

Hey Stephen
I just watched the Video on your GreenLight page and it sounded like Fred said that if you set up a recorded session then the invite URL joins participants as "viewers only". Am I understanding that right?
I have no need of recordings and can "hide" them, so this would be the simplest solution without any coding.
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Not sure on the Greenlight functionality, Fred would have to answer.   But i think if you authenticate to Greenlight, you are the moderator by default everyone else attendee.  No recordings needed.

I was replying to the desire to provide a guest invite link inside a moodle class,  so teachers could invite guests that do not have moodle accounts.

Stephen

That make a lot more sense!
Are there are any links you could share for the coding required to modify the Moodle plug-in for sending guest invite? I would be interested in this option as compared to setting up GreenLight.

Yes, if the user logs into GreenLight using either their Twitter or Google account, then the will have the ability to record sessions and only they will be moderator.

For an overview of how it works, see

Just saw Stephen Dame's post as well -- if you are technical (i.e. PHP programmer), you could develop and extension to the the BigBlueButtonBN integration to create an invite URL visible only to moderators.

Thank-YOU Fred for yet another excellent addition to making it easy to engage in the world of internet conferencing!
Qu: Can I use/run GreenLight even though I am also using BBB through Moodle?
I realize the meetings would be completely separate but it would allow for larger groups to join including Moodle participants albeit outside of the Moodle platform.
Thanks again for ALL you do!!
Cheers

Hi Stephan,

It's a separate application that runs outside of Moodle.  You would need to run a GreenLight server on a different computer.  You could install it on your BigBlueButton server.  For steps to setup, see

I realize the meetings would be completely separate but it would allow for larger groups to join including Moodle participants albeit outside of the Moodle platform.
Thanks again for ALL you do!!

Hi Stephan,

Yes, if the user logs into GreenLight using either their Twitter or Google account, then the will have the ability to record sessions and only they will be moderator.

For an overview of how it works, see

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGX3JCv7OVM

Just saw Stephen Dame's post as well -- if you are technical (i.e. PHP programmer), you could develop and extension to the the BigBlueButtonBN integration to create an invite URL visible only to moderators.

Hi Joel,

There is nothing built-into the Moodle plugin to enable this.  For sessions with users that don't require a login, you could host it with GreenLight, see

  http://docs.bigbluebutton.org/install/green-light.html

This is a separate application -- it doesn't not know about the Moodle courses, but you can generate invite URLs for a session in GreenLight (once you've logged into it using either a valid Google or Twitter account).

The ideal solution is to use Moodle for authentication so an instructor couldn't create sessions in GreenLight unless they first logged into Moodle.  There wold be some programming involved here, but once done it would compliment the capabilities of the BigBlueButtonBN integration for Moodle.

We upgraded our BBB to https and set up Greenlight. Having added google authentication I can now log-in and create meetings where only I am the moderator. My question is this ;
When I follow the link used to share the newly created meeting, the landing page for Greenlight offers the viewer to "join" the meeting , however it also offers them to "create " there own meeting!
Does this mean that as long as someone saves the link they can return at any time and use our BBB to create there own meetings?
Does the Google Authentication only limit the ability to "create" meetings as Moderator, or can it be set to limit the use of Greenlight as a whole in creating any meeting ( ie no authorization no "create your own meeting" option) ?
Sorry if I missed something, you have created an awesome product and you have put an incredible amount of time and effort into it...that shows. Thank-you in advance
Cheers
