Hi,
we always upload pdf-files when using the presentation tool to avoid changes in format.

Since we updated to 2.3 we experience some changes even with uploaded pdfs. Is it possible that the pdf get converted once again?

Is there a way to secure the uploaded format?

Thanks you in advance
Tim

Hello,
Hope you're doing well!

The PDF pages are split then converted to SVG one by one. What type of changes did you notice? Are you able to share the PDF you used for your conference?
Thanks.

Hi Rami,

thank you very much for your answer.

This is what an exemplary pdf-slide looks like: https://www.gibt.de/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Screenshot_pdf.jpg

The file that I used for demonstration is this one: https://www.gibt.de/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/original_presentation.pdf

And this is what it looks like when the pdf gets uploaded and converted: https://www.gibt.de/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Screenshot_bbb_presentation.jpg

I really appreciate the constant progress in BBB-development and don't mean to be picky witch this issue. Maybe someone found a solution or a workaround. Any hints woud be appreciated. :)

Thank you in advance
Tim

Hi Tim,

I really don't see the issue. The conversion is almost perfect, I would say 99.99% perfect. Can you please point us to your issue?

Thanks,
Ghazi

Hi Tim!

I'm sorry to hear about the inconveniences you're encountering in your BBB meetings.

However, I tried uploading and converting the attached PDF and I'll let you see the results by yourself! I had no problems in the conversion as well as the quality of the image, as you can see in the attached file, it is totally the same.

I would recommend you making someone else upload the presentation and see the results together, if he does not encounter any, there's a high chance you might be doing something wrong or having network issues.

All the best,
Good luck!

Hi Rami,
Hi Ghazi,

thank you for your answers. I admit that the deviations in my upload were rather small. However, some of my lecturers have complained because the punctuation doesn't look exactly the same and the writing sometimes went beyond a frame as a result.

In my example, you can only see that the spacing between some letters is different from the original.

Interestingly, this is not the case with Rami's upload. So the problem seems to be somewhere on my side.

Thank you anyway

Hi,

I experienced a similar issue. In my case the reason was, that some fonts were not embedded in the pdf. You can use online-tools to check this, eg. http://pdf-analyser.edpsciences.org/

After embedding all fonts everything was perfect

Best regards
Guenter

@Guenter: thanks for the tip. I will try that out.

@younisw: Normally I create the pdfs exactly this way.

Strangely enough, Rami's server generated a different (correct) result with the same file. Maybe it was really the fonts that were not recognised on my computer, but were recognised on Rami's?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Update for anyone experiencing the same issue:
As Guenter mention the problem comes from the fonts not being embedded.

When using proprietary fonts the conversion may be faulty. You can embed the fonts by opening the pdfs and when "saving as" you change the "Save as type" field, to PDF.
