Hi,

while looking at how BBB takes care of old recordings I realized that the cronjob script does not delete data in /var/bigbluebutton/recording/raw where I still find all the individual webcam streams. The data that seems to be necessary for playback is in /var/bigbluebutton/publish

So can I simply delete the data from  /var/bigbluebutton/recording/raw  without BBB getting upset about missing data?

Why are the raw recordings kept from being deleted by the cronjob after the usual 5 days?

Thanks for any hints
Oliver

Hi Oliver,

The raw directory contains the archive of the 'raw' events and media from the recording.  By retaining its contents, the administrator of a BigBlueButton server can regenerate the playback files from source files at any time.

We provide the command

  sudo bbb-record --rebuildall

to do this.  We did this many times during the development of 0.81 as we fixed and updated the record and playback scripts.

Yes, you could delete it on the same schedule as the other files.

However, you may want to keep them for one (or more) of the following reasons:

  1. The record and playback scripts got stuck on processing particular recording and you didn't notice it for may days.  In this case other unprocessed recordings would start to become deleted (unlikely as we tested these scripts with thousands of recordings, but still possible)
  2. There is a recording that does not process a recording correctly and you want to reprocess it
  3. We update the record and playback scripts in 0.81 (unlikely as we're pretty focused in 0.9.0)

Regards,... Fred

Hi Fred Dixon
Thank you for your efforts
I also have this problem and it does not work in 20 servers exclusively with versions 2.3 and 2.4 kroner, and currently my hard servers are some 98% and some 55%
I need to delete the archive of a particular day completely
If I delete all, all content, videos, etc. will be deleted, which I only need to delete on a specific day. Do you have a way to do this?

I tested all the Corn Jobs, none of them work in versions 2.3.15 and 2.4.0, and I used this tutorial to remove them manually.

Hi Navid,

Can you edit

  /etc/cron.daily/bigbluebutton

and change the value of unrecorded_days to 1, see

This will remove RAW data for recordings that have no start/stop recording marks.  For recordings that have been properly published, you can change the value of published_days to 1 as well (or some number lower than 14).

Try the above and let us know if you still have files remaining after a few days.

Regards,.. Fred

Thanks for your efforts.

Yes, I tested both this schedule and the previous schedule in the previous versions separately
But my hard drive was filling up, so I wrote a non-automatic crown job to delete the 2 folder files for me every day, which has been changing for more than 7 days.

What two folders are you deleting?
