Hello I have been trying for a few days to setup my bbb server on an intranet (not internet) I do not have a public ip. And I just have been getting errors. My setup is basic 50 users on an internal network that need to talk to each other. Is there anybody out there that has succesfully done it and would work with me.
Thanks

you should still have a working FQDN, and need to provide a SSL
certificate since browsers get picky with video/audio without ssl ...

I'm running into similar issues.  We are attempting to create certificates on our BBB Server and then upload the certificate information into a Windows AD Certificate Services webpage. A few attempts we have created the SSL chain, but various issues still seem to not be correct. Are you also trying certificates this way?

Mili have you done it before and be willing to help?

Amber, I have not tried the certificate that way. A person from fiverr helped me and they were unsuccessful. I am not sure how they did it. is your network on a private network? have you gotten it to work?

I haven’t yet gotten it working. We are on a private network, no internet so I’m creating a VM then pulling it back to tie it to my domain certificate services but that’s so far a bust.  Hoping to get some help on Monday. If I get somewhere I’ll post here!

In your intranet set the dns so bbb.yourdomain.com points to the internal IP that all the end users need to point to…

Then go buy a cert for 20 dollars, and install the cert/key/bundle on the bbb server.

Its possible to use letsencrypt on any internet accessible computer, but you need to renew this every 3 months,  you generate the keys from public server and use them on your local server.

You should not need a coturn server if everything is on the inside network,  unless you have a bunch of natted wifi routers plugged into the lan.

Stephen

I have a domain.local does that affect bbb? I guess it may come to buying a cert if generating one on my AD cert server doesn’t work. Thanks!

If all the users can ping  the domain name and the local IP resolves,   and in their browsers https://domainname loads the cert, it should work just fine.

For development it not uncommon to just add an entry in windows host file on pc, and everything works.

Stephen

Anybody out there? I may have to abandon and go to openmeetings, since I have tried with different engineers and I have not been able to get it going on an intranet environment.

Paul - I finally figured out my certificate issue, when using openssl it encrypts the .key file so i had to unlock it then copy the contents to a new file for bbb to reference.  I'm now stuck on other issues getting it to work through mattermost 404 errors and on the demo pages trying audio that's also giving some fun errors.  I'm not sure as I'm still running through lots of log files to address one issue at a time, but I am on a non-internet facing domain.

Openmeetings sounds interesting...

Hi Paul,

> Anybody out there? I may have to abandon and go to openmeetings

Yes, we are reading your posts.  Most of the companies that are setting up BigBlueButton servers are doing them on publicly accessible servers (this enables Let's Encrypt to generate a certificate).

Recommend you set up a reference server on the internet using a fully qualified domain name.  This will give you a working BigBlueButton server as a reference.  It's *much* easier to figure out what's wrong when you can compare it with a working server.

> And I just have been getting errors.

If you can share more information on the errors, it will make it easier for others to volunteer their time to help.  See

on what is helpful to share.

Regards,.. Fred

Thanks Fred. I actually found someone on fiverr after going through a couple of people that couldn’t do it. If anybody wants to use him. Contact me very knowledgeable and reasonable priced. I would put his contact info but I don’t have his permission yet
