I am running BBB on VMWare on my Windows 2008 R2 server. I would like
to allow external access from the internet. The instructions on
allowing outside access are from the standpoint of having BBB running
on a standalone computer and not on VMWare behinds a Windows
Firewall. I do not have a router installed on Ubuntu so I cannot set
the ports. Do I set the ports on my Windows firewall? If so, how and
where? Also, what are the step by step instructions on setting this
up? Please use the information below for better understanding of my
configuration:

External IP address: 68.168.105.232
Host Name: conference.myissues.us.com (subdomain) myissues.us.com
(primary domain)
Internal IP Address: 192.168.204.130

How can I set this up? I am new to Ubuntu and BBB. Please help. I
have been looking at this for a few days and trying several set ups.
I am also a novice when it comes to networking also. Your help would
be greatly appreciated.

Functionally, there should be no difference.  Your Windoze firewall will forward port traffic to your virtual machine.

Ah, but you do.  It's built in by default.  But, I think the VM already sets the ports correctly for you.

Yes - your Windows firewall will need to port-forward traffic for this to work.  We support the BigBlueButton project, and as such, can not provide support for every type of firewall out there.  You haven't given us any specific information about your specific firewall, and even if you did, it would be up to you to find how to configure it.  We can just tell you what ports need to be configured (which we already have on the page you alluded to).

You're going to need to get someone familiar with networking / windows firewalls.  They could take our instructions and easily make it work.  The information is out there.

I have this setup on my wmware server right now. where is your
router, is it on the vmware machine like pfsense or vyatta or is it a
standalone router. I use esxi and pfsense, I port portward 1935,
9123, and 80 (or 8081 i changed the port by typing sudo bbb-conf --
setip bbb.mydomain.com:8081). make sure your router has nat
reflection or a source nat rule to allow internal and external clients
to get to the server. I had a lot of trouble in the beginning with my
router I would get either internal computers or external computers.
BBB does work, and it rocks! Be patient.

Thanks for your response. I am hosting my vmware on a server with a
hosting service. I do not have direct access to the router. How
would I go about getting around the router restrictions? Do I just
modify the Windows firewall?
