I would like to run a dedicated bbb server for use with different,
independent web sites running Drupal.
In these conditions, it seems that everyone shall share the same
"security salt" that grants full and unlimited use of BBB.

What is the recommended approach:
- don't care, give the security salt to all webmasters, but how to
prevent non authorized usage, control the number of simultaneous
users...
- install separate instances of bbb on the same server - How?
- Each bbb user shall have its own dedicated server

Thanks for advices / hints

Hello Jean,

Though i have not used bbb plugin for drupal before, but i have used the plugin for moodle. I think the functionality should be similar in that all the different moodle servers(several drupal domains) can use a single BBB server. The restriction is done from within moodle and not from the BBB itself, all room creation would be done via drupal plugin and people can only access the room through drupal. Ofcourse you need to disable the demo client access on BigBlueButton so nobody can access bbb directly

Hope this helps, if not i am sure someone that uses Drupal plugin will soon respond to your concern.  :=)

Hi Jean,

Right now, if you have a single BigBlueButton server, everyone must
use the same salt, which you can give to all Drupal sites. If you've
got a few Drupal sites, it's not a big deal.

You can't install separate instances of BigBlueButton on the same
server. You could setup a server with VMWare and run separate
BigBlueButton VMs, each with its own salt.

If you have more than a few Drupal sites, I recommend you check out
the companies listed at

http://bigbluebutton.org/support

as they have solutions to help companies scale up the usage of
BigBlueButton for multiple sites.

Regards,... Fred

Jean, We have the same need, with our shared BBB servers being used
by many wordpress, moodle, and joomla users... So we are developing
a cluster controller to handle multiple salts, and backend multiple
BBB servers that limits the meeting duration, max users, rooms per
salt at the controller level.

Shutting off access to one user is now real easy, just disable salt..
and setting limits on how much resource they can use allows us to tier
pricing per user.

We have some parts of it working in production now, and will finish it
up in march with any luck. We are going to hookup 6 BBB servers to
start, but have plans to integrate EC2 scaling to allow unlimited
servers.

The controller is emulating BBB API, and proxies requests for all the
servers and no changes will need to be made to the LMS integrations,
my goal is also to not make any changes to the BBB servers, so we can
just keep them updated to master with apt-get update.

Also looking at sip redirect feature so i can server this cluster with
common set of inbound DIDs.

My plan is to get it working, and documented then most likely publish
it to git...

Would welcome any feedback on how it should work.

Regards,
Stephen

Hello BBB Community

What is the limit of simultaneous rooms currently one can create in a
single instance of BBB ?
4 , 5 , 6 different rooms at the same time ?
What kind of resources these rooms share when they run at the same
time ?
does this kind of activity create conflict between these rooms ? is
there a mechanisme to minimize this impact ?

can Anyone answer this please ?

Thank you for all these useful responses.
For the time being, I'll stick to one site => one bbb server, which is
a simple, affordable option in my context.

Depends on what modules you are using, and how you use them.... the
FAQS detail a lot of the specifics with bandwidth being one of the key
things to consider for scaling larger servers with multiple rooms and
larger participant loads.
