Hi,

First I apologize if this is not the place to take my doubts.
I'm testing the BBB in a virtual machine, using Ubuntu 14.04, I performed the entire installation process informed here:. http://docs.bigbluebutton.org/install/install.html
I can access the test environment without problems, everything works.
I encountered problems when I tried to direct the BBB to my site via the Wordpress plugin.
In BigBlueButton URL was: http://www.mysite.com.br/bigbluebutton/
In BigBlueButton shared secret informed what is in: /var/lib/tomcat7/webapps/bigbluebutton/WEB-INF/classes/bigbluebutton.properties.
But the message: Unable to display the meetings. Please check the url of the BigBlueButton server AND check to see if the BigBlueButton server is running.

Could anyone help me?

Hi Welliton,

A common problem is that your WordPress server must be able to make a direct HTTP connect (via port 80) to your BigBlueButton server.

Can you log into your WordPress server via SSH and try the following (substitute external.host.org with the URL of your BigBlueButton server).

You should get the following response

   <response><returncode>SUCCESS</returncode><version>0.X</version></response>

(where X is the version number of the BigBlueButton API).

If you don't get any response, this is the underlying problem.  Let us know if the previous test works and we'll help you dig further.

Regards,... Fred

Hello Fred,

I did a test with my internal ip: 192.168.2.81 (wget -O - --quiet http://192.168.2.81/bigbluebutton/api), the result was positive <response><returncode>SUCCESS</returncode><version>0.X</version></response>.

One more question, to configure external access I use bbb-conf -setip mysite.com.br? If so, I found the following error: Startup unsuccessful: could not connect to http://www.sialog.com.br/bigbluebutton/api

Am I doing the right thing?

Regards
Welliton

Hi Welliton,

Did you do this test by logging into the WordPress server itself and trying to make a connection to 192.168.2.81?

A common mistake is to have the WordPress server on an external network (such as an external company that hosts WordPress sites) and to setup a BigBlueButton server on an internal network that is not visible from the internet.

Just to confirm, are both your WordPress and BigBlueButton server on the same network?

Regards,.. Fred

Fred,

In my case the site is hosted with another company (external network), while the BBB is in the internal network.

You can do anything?

Thanks
Welliton

Hi Welliton,

Yes, your external WordPress site is not able to reach (through your firewall) your internal BigBlueButton server.

If you intend to use BigBlueButton with an externally hosted WordPress site, you need to setup an external BigBlueButton server.

For more information, see

You could also try making your internal BigBlueButton server visible to external sites, see

but before you try the above, check your bandwidth. We recommend you have 100 Mbits/sec symmetrical bandwidth for your BigBlueButton server.
