Ryzen 5950x vs 7900x for a single BBB instance.

Hi there!)

We are bulding a server for our ogranization's webinar system  and  we are not sure which CPU to get (they cost approximately the same in our region);.

7900x  performs better overall but it has less cores compared to 5950x

We won't be creating several BBB instance, just once. Which settings would u recommend changing to utilize the maximum number of cores?

Which CPU would serve us better? Which one would be more suitable for hosting the maximum number of uses (mixed usage, some will use mics and webcams, some won't)

Hello,

Both CPU are excellent for BigBlueButton while over-powered. BigBlueButton works with horizontal scaling for higher number of concurrent users across multiple meetings and vertical scaling is useless.

My question would be, how many concurrent users are you expecting for a single webinar? And how many concurrent webinars are expected on that single server?

1) We've never had more than 200 users per meeting. But we would like to be prepared for more intensive user-wise webinars.

Usually ~ 5-6 but it would be nice to be able to host more

I thought the devs improved on this by introducing these features:

1) three parallel Kurento media servers

2)Adjusting the number of processes for nodejs (how many should we enable on our server to fully utilize these cpus?)

Hello,

You should be able to reach 300 concurrent users for a single meeting, and 500 very cautiously by disabling a lot of features. Indeed there are a lot of improvements that have been done and more is expected for 3.0+.

We're working on increasing the capacity limits in the upcoming 3.0 release.  We're currently in 3.0.0-beta.7. 

There will be another update shortly and we would welcome everyone's help in trying it out.  Lestat, if you want more scalability, definitely try out the next update we have coming in a few days and give us your feedback.

I expected a bit more tbh...  

Would increasing  2 "frontend" and two "backend" processes in bbb-html5-with-roles.conf help to handle more users better? What values coud u recommend setting for  the mentioned CPUs?

Hi Lestat,

300 concurrent users is a recommendation, not a hard limit.

I think are load testing repositories to stress test the server.

And like Fred shared a lot of efforts is being put to handle more and more concurrent users.
