Hi guys!

I've been successfuly using BBB for some times now, mainly thanks to the help of the community. however I've ran into a new roblem reently, I hope onece again you will be able to help me!

Couple of nights ago, I couldn't join the audio bridge or upload documents into my classes (webcam and drawing were fine). When looking more closely to my server I've seen that my root volume was completely full. That was unexpected because I'm saving my recordings on a separate volume so there's no reason why the data on the root volume should increase.
Anyhow, when comparing with a fresh install i've noticed that it's the /var/freeswitch directory that had grow really heavy.
So as I needed to have my server running quickly, i've deleted the whole content of that directory, which kind of solved the problem for the audio bridge. (that might not have been my brightest move...)
For the upload however, i still can't upload anything, it says to contact the server's admin (which incidetly happens to be me).

Running bbb-conf --check gives me no errors except the ipconfig but that's normal.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Hi Aurélie,

Did you delete the contents of

 /var/freeswitch

You need only remove the contents of

  /var/freeswitch/meetings

You still need the 'meetings' directory for BigBlueButton to work properly.  To restore, do the following

  sudo mkdir -p /var/freeswitch/meetings
  sudo chown freeswitch:daemon /var/freeswitch/meetings

As for the disk space, there is a cron job that will automatically remove contents of the above directory that are older than 5 days.  This cron job (bash script) is in

  /etc/cron.daily/bigbluebutton

You can reduce the time it takes to remove old jobs by modifying the value for history

#
# How N days back to keep files
#
history=5

Try it at 3 or 2. If your too tight for disk space, you can also try restarting BigBlueButton with

  sudo bbb-conf --clean

which cleans out the older log files

In any event, you may need to provide more disk space -- BigBlueButton needs sufficient disk space.

Great, that got the docments upload working again!
Thank you very much Fred!!

I'll go and play around with the cron job to see how I can avoid that problem in the future. Thanks again!

Hm, actually the upload partly works: sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. I'm suspecting it has something to do with file size and/or type: when I upload images it doesn't work (i tried jpg and png), but rtf files are okay...
i've found this error in the console:
1/19/2014 12:31:57.102 [ERROR] An error occured while uploading the file. [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 text="Error #2038"]

Help...?

Hi Aurélie,

Are you uploading from a Linux client behind an HTTP Proxy?

Also, if you are unable to upload a file, test against http://demo.bigbluebutton.org/ first to make sure the file uploads and displays correctly.

If the upload works on demo, then on your BigBlueButton server try

  sudo bbb-conf --clean
  sudo bbb-conf --check

and look for warnings on '--check'.  The warnings you get from '--debug' are sometimes spurious and can be ignored.  If you are unsure, post the output of `sudo bbb-conf --check`.

Hi Fred!

Thank you veru much for your quick answer!
I'm pretty sure I'm not uploading from behind a firewall, since it worked okay before I had that problem with the archived files filling up my disk. ^^
I've given up trying to find the origin and restored the system to a previous point in time, which got it running properly.
About the cron job, as I am completely unfamiliar with it, is it running by default on any BBB install (deleting files older than 5 days) or does it need to be "activated"? I'll probably change the time setting but from what you said that seems pretty easy to do :)

Aurélie

Hi Aurélie,

Cron jobs are run by default.

When in doubt about anything related to Linux, just google.  See
