Errors encountered processing bbb-record-core, bbb-playback slides, bbb-config and bigbluebutton

Hi there

I recently tried installing bigbluebutton on an 

-intell core 2 duo E7500 2.93 GHz
-3.25GB RAM
-64 bit PC

The majority of the installation went successfully. Ruby installed and so did the gems. However when I go to install bigbluebutton
at the very end the errors I got were 

FreeSwitch SIP 127.0.0.1 didnt start

• Errors were encountered while processing.
-bbb-record-core
-bbb-playback slides
-bbb-config
-bigbluebutton

/usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code(1)

After I did a check by typing "bbb-conf --check" I received 
Voice application failed to register with the sip server.

Warning the value 192.168.0.166 for playback host in 

/usr/local/bigbluebutton/core/scripts/slides.yml

does not match local IP address. <my local ip>

Reading several of threads here it appears that it is something to do with the gems. I am uncertain as to 
what a .gemrc file is? I tried writing a script the same as in the troubleshooting of the installation guide under "Unable to install gems".
On executing this script, "./gems-script.sh"(gems-script.sh is made up) I get errors about not being able to convert strings into hash. I am guessing that this might have something to do with the gems already installed. I am really stuck as to weither i should go uninstalling the gems and then use the gem script with proxy.

Hi Ronan,

Can you try installing one 

  sudo gem install --http-proxy $HTTP_PROXY builder -v 2.1.2

and let us know if that works.

Hi Fred

After trying that I got similar errors to running the script file to manually install the gems.

/usr/lib/ruby/1.9.2/rubygems/config_file.rb:159:in 'merge' : can't convert String into Hash (TypeError)

This is a fresh install and about a week ago with the previous attempt to install bbb, this manual install of the 
gems worked but now it will not. Perhaps the previous time the gems were not properly installed. So not sure
what to do?

Hi again 

I actually tried adding the line 

gem: --no-ri --no-rdoc 

to the gemrc file and it installed the gems. However after I edited the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/bbb-record-core.preinst and commented out the line
gem install $gem and ran sudo apt-get install -f it still has trouble setting up bbb-record-core.

The error i am getting is: 

 Fetching gem metadata from http://rubygems.org/. Unfortunately a fatal error has occurred. Please see the Bundler troubleshooting 
documentation at http://bit.ly/bundler-issues. Thanks!
/usr/lib/ruby/1.9.2/net/http.rb:644:in 'initialize' : Connection timed out - connect(2) (Errno: :ETIMEDOUT)

I was able to get rid of the error. ( Fetching gem metadata from http://rubygems.org/. Unfortunately a fatal error has occurred. Please see the Bundler troubleshooting 
documentation at http://bit.ly/bundler-issues.)

Browsing through the ruby gem and bundler websites, i installed bundler by typing
:~$ Bundler install                           (in the directory /usr/local/bigbluebutton/core as this is were the Gemfile is located)

I restarted the machine and installed the gem script (manual install from "Unable to install gems" section of instructions) again and 
when i did sudo apt-get install -f the error was gone. I tested bbb and the slides and draw tool work well. However
the one thing that is not running is the bbb-record-core. I would like to get this running but not sure how to?

Hi,

Can you try

  cd /usr/local/bigbluebutton/core/scripts/
  sudo -u tomcat6 ruby rap-worker.rb

and let us know if you receive any errors.

Hi

It appear as though the problem is gone. I tested out the record feature and it works
great. However, are the lines from the draw tool supposed to appear in the recordings as
they dont appear on mine.

Once again thank you very much for your help. Very happy to have this now up and running.

Hi,

In BigBlueButton 0.80, which is what you are running, we are currently recording slides + presentation + chat.  The presentation area is only the slides.  See


In BigBlueButton 0.81, which we are working on now, we'll be adding the recording of all activity in the presentation window -- which includes mouse movement, whiteboard, and pan and zoom.

When we have a beta of BigBlueButton 0.81 ready for testing, we'll announce in
