1002 : could not make websocket connection

Hey developer :

i use bigbluebutton for the first time i install every thing but when i connected to the meeting its shows me a message :

Detected the following WebRTC issue: Error 1002: Could not make a WebSocket connection. Do you want to try Flash instead?

please help

Hi Hamza,

Can you post the output of

  sudo bbb-conf --check

The 1002 error is caused when the BigBlueButton client (or more specifically your browser) can not make a websocket connection to your BigBlueButton server.

Also, try using FireFox and after you get the error, open a new tab and enter

 about:webrtc

You can see the a column for Local Candidate and Remote Candidate.  Check the Remote Candidate (which is your BigBlueButton server) has the remote IP address of your server listed.

If not, try the steps at 


and let us know if that gets you going.

One thing to note is that the websocket needs to be connected before the WebRTC stuff actually kicks in so no candidates will show up in the logs. The problem will either be a misconfiguration (nginx or FreeSWITCH) or networking issue.

For me somehow the ip address got set incorrectly so I updated that value in /opt/freeswitch/conf/vars.xml
