How to disable webcam virtual background option on BBB 2.4

Hi all,
Could anybody please tell me how to disable the webcam virtual background option? Blur mode included.
In some occasions we need to do a face recognition of participants and if they choose any virtual background image the result could be wrong. So, we need to disable this option.

There are two options:

  - server-wide, >= v2.4.0: via settings.yml (https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/blob/5d2f295b0337997c6c35f0dd287749a3d69ce2ef/bigbluebutton-html5/private/config/settings.yml#L752-L753). Prefer using the override file /etc/bigbluebutton/bbb-html5.yml.

  - per meeting, >= v2.4.4: as a create call parameter. See "virtualBackgroundsDisabled" in https://docs.bigbluebutton.org/dev/api.html#create

Hello Fellow Admins, 

I will jump into this Post since the Issue is similar now in 2.5.2

I have tried disabling through the apply.sh:

$yq w -i $HTML5_CONFIG 'public.app.virtualBackgrounds.enabled' false

$chown meteor:meteor $HTML5_CONFIG

and through the settings itself:

(/usr/share/meteor/bundle/programs/server/assets/app/config/settings.yml)

virtualBackgrounds:
    enabled: false

but with no effect on the Setting, still showing the option to select Virtual backgrounds. 

Interestingly all other Virtualbackground settings work, either from the script or through the yml file... 

Any thoughts?

Make sure you restarted bbb:
bbb-conf --restart

You have to do:

bbb-conf --restart

To changes take effect.

Yes of course. The restart takes place after each modification. I have always used thia option in 2.4 without issues. Now I decided to upgrade and although the changes stick to the config file, they have no effect on the client... 

I was thinking it might have something to do with that virtualbackgrounddisabled setting that popped up in late 2.4 and is now deprecated

Yes, the settings.yml option seems broken as of 2.5.x.

We'll fix that, thanks for reporting it.
