Hi Marc,

Is your Moodle server able to make a direct HTTP connection to your BigBlueButton server?

For the BigBlueButtonBN plugin to create a meeting on the BigBlueButton server, it must make an HTTP connection using the URL you entered in configuration of BigBlueButtonBN.

The reason for the error

String could not be parsed as XML

is that the HTTP request returned back no data, and couldn't be parsed.  Why?  The common cause is that the BigBlueButton server is behind a firewall and is not directly accessible by the Moodle server (running outside the firewall).

When you test with test-install, it works because test-install is not behind a firewall.

Is your BigBlueButton server, by chance, running on your local network?  If so, you can grant external access to it by modifying your Firewall rules, see

Regards,... Fred

Is your Moodle server external to your network?

Can you confirm that your Moodle server has the ability to make a direct HTTP connection to your BigBlueButton server.

Try the following: SSH into your Moodle server and enter the following command

   wget  http://192.168.1.132/bigbluebutton/api -O - --quiet; echo

You should see an XML response.  Here's the response from test-install

<response><returncode>SUCCESS</returncode><version>0.81</version></response>

Fred thank you for the reply!!!  both server are on my local network and there is no firewall involved for the two server to talk to each other, they are on the same segment attached to a layer 2 switch.

Hi Marc,

Can you check that the BigBlueButtonBN plugin has the following settings for the URL

and that your shared secret is correct.  You can get the share secret on your BigBlueButton server by entering the command

  bbb-conf --secret

Check the above and try it again and let us know if you still have troubles.

Regards,... Fred

Fred we are moving forward to adopt BBB what is the best way to get schooled up on the back end and troubleshooting day to day problems?  I've been playing with BBB for sometime but have dug deep into the code.

thanks
