Hi!

we just tested to upgrade to v.32

and discovered, that sudo is required at least for the installation. As we did remove sudo due to security issues bbb was not installed correctly during the upgrade and even if it seemed to run normally the connection to freeswitch did not work anymore.

For the admins this means, they do not see any error.

For the enduser this means they cannot pass the echotest.

In the syslog it just shows connection to freeswitch failed.

To prevent this for other users it would be important, that you add sudo to the prerequisites and install it if necessary during the installation / upgrade.

cheers

Martin

Afternoon Folks,

Started my first upgrade with the usual:

wget -qO- https://ubuntu.bigbluebutton.org/bbb-install.sh | bash -s -- -v xenial-220 -a -s {hostname}

which was unsuccessful.

SECRET was set back to default and version still showed 2.2.31.

Decided to review the instructions and see the script has been enhanced and now wants xenial-22. Sorry I missed when that changed.

Ran it again, still unsuccessful. Both times I am getting:

Setting up bbb-web (1:2.2.0-151) ...
sed: -e expression #1, char 179: unterminated `s' command
dpkg: error processing package bbb-web (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of bbb-config:
bbb-config depends on bbb-web; however:
Package bbb-web is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing package bbb-config (--configure):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
No apport report written because the error message indicates its a followup error from a previous failure.
Errors were encountered while processing:
bbb-web
bbb-config
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Mind pointing me to where the script exists that has the bad sed expression? I can try to see what is unusual about this instance. It's truly a very basic install with Greenlight.

I'm thinking it might be that I don't want the script to touch my certs but that it might be trying to do the right thing anyway :).

Thanks,
DrJES

Hi James MacLean,

if i'm not mistaken, i had a problem like this, a while ago.

I removed the bbb files in /tmp.

And I ran: aptitude reinstall bbb-web bbb-config.

Hi there,

I have a problem with the etherpad. It is not loaded/found on shared
notes (the button is also not there) and on captions it shows a 404
Not Found on the location to enter text.

Any suggestions?

regards
Reimar

Big thanks!
Still some leftover missing settings that I copied from another working environment but I am up to 2.2.32 now.

Great to hear -- what was the file that had the copied settings?

Regards,.. Ferd

Morning Fred,

In /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/bigbluebutton, the GreenLight section, location ~ (/open/|/close/|/idle/|/send/|/fcs/)  section, location /deskshare where gone as well as my cert setup was toasted (replaced by a different letsencrypt layout). As mentioned before the SECRET was set back to the default.

After I ran this re-install as suggested on the two apps, the SECRET was replaced with a new one. I just reset it to what we were already using in GreenLight.

There may be other things but my initial testing suggested everything is working and recording fine. I have several more instances to upgrade, but will hold off to give myself more time in case I encounter similar situations.

thanks,
DrJES
