Hey all,

for testing purposes i would like to show a standard video as the webcam of the moderator.
Is it somehow possible to stream, let's say with VLC, a dvd to the meeting room.

Greetings

haha - I know it is, but have not taken time to set it up yet. I, too, am interested in a how-to for this.
I have seen it (most recently in the last stress test) and so now I want to give it a try.

One way to do it is to install ManyCam (free software):

  1. Download/Install/Click on the Sources tab and then click on Movies.
  2. Click “Open a new file” under “Recent files” and load the video you want to use. Manycam supports AVI, MPEG and WMV. Depending on your video type, you may have to convert your video using a video converter.
  3. To remove the Manycam logo from the bottom of the video, click on the “Effects” tab, and then click on “Text over video”. Now uncheck the “Show Manycam logo” option.
At that point, you can just use the video as if it were a webcam. Hopefully that will work for you. I haven't been keeping up with ManyCam updates, so I can't confirm the new version will work the same way (although I'm guessing it hasn't changed much.)

ok, that's a solution but not a really great one :-)

Is it possible to stream with VLC right to the red5 server? There must be an url that flash uses.
How can i find out where the flash plugin streams it's data to?

VLC support for RTMP is not very good.

But if you can get it to work, then you can publish a stream to rtmp://<ip>/video/<roomId>/<streamId>

Then on the client, you can't quite use the webcam module for this, as the webcams are tied to specific users. But you can create a new module that plays the stream, all you need to know is the above url where it is published.

The standard red5 demo apps are on the server, and if you have port
5080 open you can get access... I have looked into the debug log of
bbb client and found the stream ids, and then both watched and
publlished direct from these demo apps to red 5 so i can view and
publish as any user within bbb provided as long as i know the internal
user number.... I also used the free Adobe Flash Media Encoder
3.2 to talk direct to red5 to stream to a bbb meeting, it does
recording as well..

key is knowing the userid and screenresolution so you can form the
rtmp url.... i used an already published user id to connect and
fooled bbb.

Pretty neat.... Just need someone that knows what their really doing
to polish off an external app.
