We are pleased to announce 2.3-beta-3, the latest release to BigBluebutton 2.3-dev.

This 2.3-beta-3 release includes multiple bug fixes and stability improvements. The support for Microsoft Edge browser has been recovered; we thank those who pointed out the regression.

Special thanks to contributors @PhMemmel @hiroshisuga @znerol @hex-m @danimo @schrd @basisbit and others for helping with code contributions / comments / testing and proving feedback!

The full release notes for 2.3-beta-3 are here

To try out 2.3-beta-3, visit

Or, better yet, grab a Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit server and install the latest version yourself (it will take only a few minutes):

Note that the repository used to install is now `bionic-230` rather than `bionic-230-dev`, so please double check the command you use for the update. Check the instructions in the link above.

As always, we welcome feedback on this latest update.

Hello and thank you so much for the much needed upgrades, I would like to say that these upgrades are so beneficial to the system, I have a few questions though:
1-Is this version now considered as a production version? We can use it safely with our students?
2-How many users can it handle in one session on a 4 core 8 GB RAM server?
3-Will there be a 2.4 version now coming up? Or a 3? Or 2.3 will be the one to be used for the next year?

Best,
Elias

Hi,

> 1-Is this version now considered as a production version? We can use it safely with our students?

Not yet -- that's why we have 'beta-3' at the end.  Though we're trying to make the betas as stable as possible so folks could try it under load.

> 2-How many users can it handle in one session on a 4 core 8 GB RAM server?

We'll let others share their experience with 2.3-beta-3 so we can answer that with real world numbers.

> 3-Will there be a 2.4 version now coming up? Or a 3? Or 2.3 will be the one to be used for the next year?

Our focus right now is finished 2.3 and making it solid so others can use it.  No speculation on what is next.

Regards,... Fred

Thank you, well done. Upgrading went smooth, localization is covered. We will put it live for testing group next week by Gods will.

Ali,

it looks as if bbb thinks you have Tomcat installed - but the startscript / systemd tells it is not.

You can try to manually uninstall tomcat - if this does not work install and uninstall it.

maybe this solves the problem.

Thank you, very much correct. tomcat8 is not installed, the message disappeared after installing it. The question is: why bbb is looking for it? everything is working fine without it !

good question - I also asked me this a time ago ... why does bbb use tomcat if it is installed?

but in your case bbb thought it was installed so  it seems that the systemd file of tomcat has existed. The question is: did you install that in the past? Or did bbb place something there? ...just to make sure this is not a bug with upgrades.

cheers

Thank you, It was a clean Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installation of previous beta 1 version, then updated to beta 2, and now just updated it to beta 3

In all cases, I did not install/update any package other than using bbb-install.sh

Today, after updating beta 2 to beta 3, I have the same message. And also before beta 2 there was a demo version that I deleted earlier. You should try to put it again on another server. But it will be tomorrow.

Awesome beta release, once again, feels like the right track for 2.3 ;)

Installed flawlessly over instances running 2.3b2, all good so far!

Dear all,

So far great work. Thank you team. I have noticed that sometimes audio gets disconnected during the class hours. Those reporting these complaints were in listener only mode. Sametime, in a big classroom having more than 100 students,if we push the poll all participants will automatically get disconnected. These two problems have existed from beta-1 onwards.

A related problem existed in 2.2 already and there is an open issue
about it:
https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bbb-install/issues/73

I was never able to uninstall the demo (and tomcat) in a clean way so I
just make sure not to install them in the first place.

At least the "apt-get remove bbb-demo" from the documentation[1] is not
enough.

> In all cases, I did not install/update any package other than using bbb-install.sh

You probably installed bbb-demo with the -a flag of bbb-install.sh and
reinstalled/upgraded without that flag.

hth,
Matthias

Thank you. In a clean installation of v2.3b3, I installed without (-a),
then updated with (-a), then removed API demo, things went OK and no
errors reported. It seems it was a bug in previous bbb-install and got
rectified.
