Hi Everyone,

We are pleased to announce the release of BigBlueButton 2.2 beta-6.

The main update in this release is a shift in the video CODEC to VP8.  This was made possible by Apple now supporting VP8 in iOS 12.2, released in March 25 (thank you Apple!).

This means that sharing of webcams and screen share now use the higher quality VP8 codec (compared with the previously used h.264 codec).  For more details, see

To install/upgrade to BigBlueButton 2.2-beta-6, see

Let us know if you see any issues in this update.

Regards,.... Fred

Dear Fred,

Kudos to the BBB development team for the release.
Could you please confirm if BBB now requires at least IOS version 12.2 to enable webcam and screen share?
This is because I am having "Error 2203: server could not find an appropriate codec" error message on an Ipad with a lower version IOS.

Best regards

Hi Kenren,

Confirmed.

> Could you please confirm if BBB now requires at least IOS version 12.2 to enable webcam and screen share?

We're working right now on some feedback in the client to the user if they are on an earlier version of iOS.  This way, they will know what to do.

Hi Fred,

I've just done the dist-update to pull in the latest and get the following at the end:

added 142 packages from 109 contributors and audited 320 packages in 17.108s
found 1 high severity vulnerability
run `npm audit fix` to fix them, or `npm audit` for details

Regards,

Phill.

Hi Phil,

Your still going to get that warning for a bit longer.  See previous discussion in

We're working on updating the underlying npm packages to bring in a later version of node-sass, but it's triggering some changes in how we build the HTML5 package.  You'll see the fix for this come in beta-7.

Thanks,

I do recall it from previous, wasn't sure if it was still an issue and thought it wiser to check with you guys:)

Regards,
Phill.

I found some bugs. I do not know if they have been reported:

The default poll options (yes, no, true, and false) are not being translated.

Tooltip "Increase breakout room time" and "Decrease breakout room time" are reversed.

Is "Randomly assign" working? Nothing happens here.

Thanks for the detailed reports Henry. I've opened issues for them. The poll answer translation, https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/issues/7379. Breakout room tooltips, https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/issues/7380. The random assigning does seem to be working as intended. It will also only assign viewers and will leave moderators unassigned. There's a bug in beta 6 where users are missing from the modal so you might be encountering an issue with that.

That was it. Thank you. It would be interesting to have this information in .modalDesc or elsewhere.

There should probably be a way to visually distinguish moderators from viewers in the modal. There could also be some sort of indicator that the assign button actually did something. It confused me also when I only have one moderator user in the meeting.

It would also be interesting if this option evenly distributed between rooms and works more than once (Not only when the user is listed in the unassigned)

It does need a better shuffle algorithm. I opened an issue for this one also with a proposed alternate shuffle https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/issues/7388

Currently running bbb2.2beta3.  Would like to upgrade to beta6.  This doesn't happen when I do apt update & apt dist-upgrade.  I originally installed 2.2 manually.  Do need to upgrade by following all the manual steps again?

Hi David,

If you haven't made any custom changes to your installation, you can also upgrade using bbb-install.sh, see

To upgrade manually, go through the installation steps again starting with Step 3.
