Screenshare not working properly in BBB 2.7.1

Hi BBB Team,

We recently upgraded to BBB 2.7.1 and during some classes screenshare option isn't working and everyone's camera and mic get disconnected if the teacher tries to share her screen for a longer period of time.  

Hoping that you guys will fix it soon, as it's happening regularly.

This isn't enough information for us to proceed.  There is some missing information

1. What version were you using before?
   1b.  Did you experience any of these issues before?
2. Are your users on restricted networks that require TURN servers to connect?
3. Are you able to reproduce the issue yourself?
  3a.  Are you able to reproduce it with one of your users?
  3b.  Are you able to then use our demo servers (you both connect to the same session) and able to reproduce the disconnection there?
4. Is it happening to some users/all users?
5. What is "longer period of time" -- a few minutes, a few hours?

For others to help you, these are the first list of questions that come to mind.  If there is any other information that you can share that would be helpful, please do so.

Below are the answers to your questions. 

1. What version were you using before?
Ans: BBB version: 2.6.9

   1b.  Did you experience any of these issues before?
Ans: No

2. Are your users on restricted networks that require TURN servers to connect?
Ans: I'm not sure.

3. Are you able to reproduce the issue yourself?
Ans: Yes we are but not always 

  3a.  Are you able to reproduce it with one of your users?
Ans: Yes we are but not always

  3b.  Are you able to then use our demo servers (you both connect to the same session) and able to reproduce the disconnection there?
Ans: No. We were not able to check it as we can't ask our students to join this meeting.

4. Is it happening to some users/all users?
Ans: Only when some particular users are in the meeting, especially I guess when IOS or Mac users are in the meeting and then when the tutor tries to share her screen she isn't able to share. During that time I tried sharing from other meeting links and the share option was not available anywhere all throughout the server. Once the meeting ended I ran "bbb-conf --check". Then when I checked sharing I was able to share in all the meeting links.

5. What is a "longer period of time" -- a few minutes, a few hours?
Ans: During some meetings when the teacher tries to share her screen for more than 1 or 2 minutes the whole audio and video gets disconnected and gets connected back immediately.

Currently, we moved from 2.7.1 to BBB version 2.6.14 and we have not faced any issues with this version for the last 2 days in any of the classes

Actually what happens is when we try to share the screen in some particular meeting the 3 dots keep on loading and it never gets loaded for students if the teacher keeps on trying to load after a few minutes everyone in the meeting gets disconnected from the audio and video and gets connected back to audio automatically.

Hello

Today we have started experiencing this issue as well. Unfortunately we can't restart the server currently coz of the lectures.

We try to share our screen, it gets stuck at "screenshare is loading" and then if you wait for 2-3 minutes BBB disconnects everyone and reconnects., All ports are open and everything was working fine for more than 3 weeks.


BBB ver 2.7.3.

Hi Alex,

Stay out of BBB 2.7 for now as screen share won't work properly in it, there is already a fix that the BBB team is bringing up with the next update. More details can be found in the below BBB GitHub link. Hope this fix fixes the issue. Until then stay away from BBB 2.7.

Hope your issue is the same as the issue mentioned in the GitHub Link. Check the GitHub link to see if it's the same.

Apply the hotfix outlined in https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/issues/19085#issuecomment-1806260152 or set recordFullDurationMedia=true in /etc/bigbluebutton/bbb-web.properties
to work around the issue while the next version doesn't land with the fix. v2.7.4 should land over the next weeks with the final fix for that issue.
No need to "stay away" from 2.7 if you do either of those.

What does  recordFullDurationMedia=true exactly do?

I read the explanation (Controls whether media (audio, cameras and screen sharing) should be captured on their full duration if the meeting's recorded property is true (recorded=true). Default is false: only captures media while recording is running in the meeting.)  but I'm not sure I understand it right.  

Will turning this on enables recording of the whole meeting regardless whether I press "Record or not"?

Files will be captured, but the meeting will not be recorded (as in the recording processing scripts will not be executed and the captured files will be removed later on).
This was the default behavior up to BigBlueButton 2.6.<something>. It changed recently to what we have today.
