Dear BigBlueButton developer community,

I have been using an installation of version 2.0 and has been rock solid. It is connected to multiple Wordpress sites that I use to manage the rooms and provide a landing page for the webinar sessions. It haven' had any problems.

I organize webinars for academic communities.

This are some features I think would make working with BBB even better.

Recording access control

I'm using BigBlueButton Wordpress plugin version 1.4.6 which lets me control access to the sessions by Wordpress user roles. I place links to the recording on the front end so the session can be views afterwards by the members of the community, but I'm not able to control access tho the recordings in the same way.

Is there any way to restrict access to the recordings?

Invitation only

It would be nice to be able to input a list of invitees with their email addresses and send the invitations from the plugin.

Also would be nice to restrict the access to the session or leave it open. It would make a great tool for promoting your webinar.

I am accomplishing this by sending invitations to fill out a form that triggers an email that provides the user with the link to the session and the room password.

Maybe this could be automated

Recording download script

I would be awesome to be able top download a zip file with the parts of the recording. So it can be edited with your favorite video editor and uploaded for the community to watch it.

I've wandered in the recordings folder and it can be overwhelming.

I've read that recordings are not the focus of development. I think it would be a clean way out of developing a recording management system. Besides leaving the server available to run sessions instead of serving the recordings.

Thanks

BigBlueButton has been paramount for me and the communities I connect.

Love you.

Hi Alfonso,

Thanks for the love!

You should definitely try out BigBlueButton 2.2-beta -- we've been working on hardening it over the past few months, and it doesn't require any Flash client (yay!).

The access control now is that a user can't possible guess a recording URL for a given recording, but once accessible, they can reuse it.  The next step would be to have the BigBlueButton server generate dynamic recording URLS that, for example, expire after 6 hours.  We have an open enhancement for this

We're getting there with Greelight.  Currently, you can restrict access to sessions (which is accessible by permanent URL) by preventing users from entering until a moderator has started the session.  With Greenlight, you can create a one-off URL, promote it, and the meeting only starts when moderators join.

We don't have the ability in the WordPress plugin to restrict access to meetings until the moderator joins.  However, using Greenlight, you could create your meetings there and put in the invite URL to WordPress.

Cool.

It's also an open enhancement request

We'll get there (eventually).

Glad your enjoying 2.0 -- definitely try 2.2-beta and let us know if you see any issues or would like improvements.  See

Regards,... Fred
