Hi BigBlueButton Community,

I'm facing an issue with audio connection specifically on the Firefox browser. After creating and joining a meeting, the audio setup dialog appears, but the connection fails — no audio is received or transmitted.

Interestingly, everything works fine in other browsers like Chrome and Edge, so this seems to be isolated to Firefox.

Things I've already tried:

  • Restarted the BigBlueButton server and all services (including FreeSWITCH).

  • Verified that microphone permissions are granted.

  • Checked /var/log/freeswitch/freeswitch.log for errors — couldn't find any major issues.

  • Ensured that ICE negotiation and media ports are open and correctly configured.

Has anyone else encountered this issue with Firefox recently? Is there a known compatibility or configuration fix for this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

yes, this is a known issue, but it's Firefox's "fault". Unfortunately BBB can't do anything about it.
There's even an issue in Mozilla, but can't seem to find it right now.
Best solution is to tell your users to use a Chrome-based browser.

J.

Hi,

I am having the same issue with Bigbluebutton 3.0.x. We had this workaround for version 2.7.x to put forceRelayOnFirefox: false in /etc/bigbluebutton/bbb-html5.yml. It seems not working with BBB 3.

Do you know any other solution for it? Why BBB officially don't say that Mozilla Firefox is no longer support with BBB 3 if it's not solvable issue.

Best Regards,
Sam

Hi,

you can also do it on Firefox's side through media.peerconnection.ice.relay_only->true, but this could be a no-go for the users.
Can't really say if it was removed for BBB 3.
Firefox works perfectly with BBB 3 and 3.1 beta. I don't know where you get the assumption that "Firefox is no longer support".

J.
