Understanding that the practical upper limit to the number of participants in single meeting is in the ball park of 300 with the right configuration,  is there any path or way/method to hold a single meeting  with up to 1000 participants?

Some assumptions would be:
1. Use of the fastest available hardware.
2. server dedicated to hosting one single large meeting
3. a very small group of hosts and presenters would share video, audio, plus a presentation.
4. all remaining participants are viewers and are not sharing video, audio, etc.
5. streaming is not an option, all participants must be real time.
6. enough internet bandwidth is available to host the meeting.

If there is no path currently to get to 1000 participants then any hypothetical discussions of how to theoretically get to 1000 are welcome.

Any thoughts or input appreciated.

Hi Les,

Can you share more of the use cases you are trying to solve with 1,000 users?

At the 16th developer summit in Berlin, we did testing on pushing the limits of BigBlueButton.  You can see the results here

In the test Daniel pushed a BigBlueButton server with 950 bots.  See above link for details.

At the 17th developer summit in Brazil, which was in April, we also worked on optimizing the communication between the client and server using GraphQL.  This should yield an increase in capacity in the future as well.

So, not 1000 today, but we're working towards it for a future version of BigBlueButton.  There are lots of priorities we have for the project, see

Right now, the scaling of BigBlueButton is a byproduct of our constant optimization of the platform as opposed to a defined goal.

Regards,... Fred

Thanks Fred,
Good video and good to know that it is possible/plausible and getting closer.  Is there a timeline for getting GraphQL implemented?
A use case would be a large town hall for example where there would be a live audio/video QA session.
Often organizers prefer real time vs streaming/webcast  solutions for larger meetings, even when the webcast solution would suffice.
Best Regards,
Les
