I confirmed on test-install, my .90 server, and demo.bigbluebutton.org when running demo11.jsp, you can't type any chat txt thru the flash module.

Typing something in flash and entering does not echo back text,  but the javascript chat submissions work.

Is this the desired behavior?

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

I can confirm that the injecting of chat messages from JavaScript using demo11.jsp to BigBlueButton is one-way.

We wrote this JavaScript API and the demo11.jsp example before the development of the BigBlueButton HTML5 client.

In the future, for two-way chat from JavaScript <-> BigBlueButton, the better approach would be to use the same mechanism as the BigBlueButton HTML5 client.

We've not made the HTML5 client modular (yet), where you could insert just chat, for example, in a web page, but it's something we'll look at during the development of the HTML5 client.

Right now, we're focused on finishing the development of the HTML5 client for a first release.  See

Thanks,  understand the javascript in one-way currently, what I was pointing out is that it now breaks the chat in flash client when you try to use.  If you try to use the api,  the chat module will not allow user to type anything currently in .90 when in the flash client anymore

In .81 you could use the javascript api, and the user could still type in flash client.

regards,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Got it and was able to reproduce.  Opened an issue to track fixing this
