Recommended Shared Notes switch to BlockNote

Hi everyone,

For the past couple of months we at BlindsideNetworks have switched our shared notes from Etherpad to BlockNote and are happy with the results, both visual and functional.

BigBlueButton's version of Etherpad is quite old now and is missing recent security patches (we did not adopt newer major versions and instead opted to explore alternatives).

On BBB 4.0 we've made BlockNote default, but on 3.0.x it's too much of a change for a patch release.

We strongly encourage people switch their BBB 3.0 servers to BlockNote https://docs.bigbluebutton.org/new-features/#blocknote-shared-notes

Hi Anton,

I echo Anton's recommendation.  Not only is Blocknote more secure, but in our testing users very much enjoyed the new functionality.

I recommend that anyone running their own BigBlueButton 3.0 server (a) update it to the latest release of 3.0.x, and (b) set Blocknote as the default.

We've moved to setting Blocknote as the default BigBlueButton 4.0 beta.
