BigBlueButton Tablet App Not Available (in Germany)

Hi All,

Our trainers like to use BBB on Mac (or Windows) + iPad. They would mainly like to share their screen on iPad and write/scribble on it using a pen. Even though the resolution is not perfect, our trainers can still use their iPads (through BigBlueButton Tablet app) in a lecture. However, it looks like the app is no longer available in Germany (and Sweden and India). The app is very important for the trainers who use iPad.

It would be great if someone could tell me the reason why it is not available in Germany and if there is a plan to make it available again soon (if yes, when).

Hi Soheb and Eugen,

Check the app store again -- you should see the BigBlueButton Tablet app now visible again.

The reason for its brief disappearance was that I had missed the reminders to renew our Apple Developer membership.  I'll make sure we renew it next year before expiry :-).

Thanks for "re-enabling" the BBB Tablet app.

We tried the app on three different devices:

iPhone 15 Pro Max (2023)

iOS 17.5

Modell: MU7E3ZD/A

iPad Pro 11" (2018) 

iPadOS 17.5

Modell: MTXQ2FD/A

iPhone 8 Plus

iOS 16.3.1

Modell: MQ8P2ZD/A

On both iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPad Pro 11" the screenshare connections disconnects with error 1101 after between 5 to 20 seconds. It seems like the error only occurs, if you leave the app. (the app stays blurry all the time as long as you stay inside the app)

The iPhone 8 Plus connection works as expected. The screenshare also gets sharper after about 1-2 seconds.

It seems like the newer iOS versions changed it's behavior regarding screensharing/screenrecording.

Is there a github project for the BBB Tablet app where I can add an issue?

There are solutions to your problem that are more of a workaround. We use both ;-)

MAC: Start movie recording in Quicktime, select the ipad as camera and publish the window that appears via screen sharing.

Windows: Basically identical, as there is no Quicktime on windows, we use the app anymiro on the windows computer - this also works with android tablets.

This allows the ipad screen to be mirrored in a good resolution and teachers can use any software they want on the ipad.
