Hello, all,

Can anybody explain why when I installed BBB with Green Light in my LAN server, then the other machines on the same LAN can not visit this server machine by bbb.example.com?    But 192.168.1.2 (server's LAN address)  is working, always.   If I visit my LAN from a machine out of my LAN, then no problem as well.

Yours,
Newbee to BBB.
Robert

As if the UFW has blocked something.  Other machines on same LAN can not visit via bbb.example.com still (as said, typing 192.168.1.2 is OK),  even when I open everything in and out in iptables.  Such problem also happens when I am trying to ssh into bbb server ( I have to use 192.168.1.2.   <>      bbb.example.com will NOT work.)

To be clear in my question,   weirdly, but good things is that:   any browser outside my LAN can visit  (and SSH into this server as well)   by typing bbb.example.com in browser address.    But inside my LAN, all LAN machines should type  192.168.1.2  (LAN address of the bbb server) to visit.     Typing  bbb.example.com  will NOT work at all.

Hi Robert,

do you have a DNS Resolver in your internal LAN?
Those machines are trying to translate from Domain Name to IP-Address, but cannot do it alone. They need either a DNS-Server or you can tell each machine how to translate that specific address within the hosts file.

Regards,
J.

I have the router netgear   Nighthawk R7900P     which I suppose should have a DNS resolver function?

Hi all,

I'm not sure from your problem description (as I don't know your network topology) but it sounds (or can sounds) like classic Hairpin NAT problem (to be precise lack of Hairpin NAT).

So I'm assuming your Green Light domain bbb.example.com is pointing to your external IP address - for example address of your router - and on that router you have configured a Destination NAT that "redirecting" external traffic to Green Light server on your LAN (using 192.168.1.2 address).
If this is your case it's highly probable that lack of Hairpin NAT functionality on your router is the cause.

Best,
Michał
