Hi Group,

It seems planned that BBB2.3 is removing the Flash Client completely.
While I fully support and use the HTML5 client for Chrome, Firefox, Safari I modify the Bigbluebutton.html file to send IE11 and Edge users to Flash.

We do this because in the coutries we provide a service IE 11 + Edge (< v17) users account for about 8-10% of browser usage.
Not only that but Windows will still provide IE 11 for quite sometime.

I would like to know are there others that still use the Flash client as a backup for IE users?

Please add a "+1" if you still require using the Flash client in some way

Cheers.

...just out of curiosity ... why not updating the users operating systems and browser to the supported ones? There won't be a cost for that normally and e.g. from windows xp to win 7 you even would have a faster system on older hardware?

(of course win 10 should be the way to go - just in case someone cannot upgrade to win 10)

So what points are there to stay with IE or other old browsers, that really is interesting ...?

thanks for giving me some ideas, what I may not realice.

best

Martin

Not possible. No connection/authority to update end-user terminals. In my case they are doctors in hospitals across the country.

Your poll text is miss-leading.

"Let them who need it be using older bbb versions..."

2.2 is NOW also broken. The server packages deployed for 2.2 broke the flash application in the last month, so it is not possible to use flash with BBB AT ALL ON ANY VERSION.

HI Ally,

We (the core developers)_ haven't done any testing of the Flash client for over a year, and in the upcoming version of BigBlueButton 2.3 (currently in development), we've started to remove some of the Flash legacy code in the server.

We realize that you still have users on the Flash client on IE, but are investing all of our resources in accelerating the development of the HTML5 client.

Regards,... Fred
