Hello BigBlueButton community,

I am currently using BigBlueButton for online classes and I would like to get some advice regarding the required server resources.

My current usage pattern:

  • Around 30 classes run at the same time

  • Approximately 60 users connected simultaneously (2 users per class)

  • Classes run Monday to Friday

  • Daily usage window is from around 8 PM until 3 PM the next day

  • All classes are 1-to-1 sessions

  • Around 25 out of 60 users usually enable their webcams

  • Chat system is disabled

  • Polls are disabled

  • Notes sharing is disabled

  • Every meeting is recorded

  • Whiteboard is used regularly

I would like to know what server configuration would be recommended for this workload.

Specifically:

  1. What dedicated server specifications would be enough for this usage?

    • CPU cores

    • RAM

    • Storage type (SSD/NVMe)

    • Network bandwidth

  2. If using a KVM-based VPS instead of a dedicated server, what minimum resources would you recommend?

  3. Are there any important configuration changes required for better performance with this type of workload?

  4. Would a single BigBlueButton server be enough, or should I consider multiple servers/load balancing for this number of users?

Any recommendations from people running similar workloads would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
