Hi Everyone,

We (the core developers) want to start holding regular developer calls with our community.  The goal of these calls is (a) to increase collaboration and communication within the  BigBlueButton community and (b) to accelerate the development of BigBlueButton itself.

Next call:

  Thursday, March 1st, at 10am EST (GMT-5)

Agenda:
   1. Overview of the BigBlueButton project (history, growth, and look at the current state of the project) [Fred Dixon]
   2. What's in BigBlueButton 0.8-beta-4 [Richard Alam]
   3. Q&A

How to participate (please use a headset):
  password: developer

These calls will be developer focused.  In the coming sessions, depending on the presentations and the questions asked, we intend to cover topics such as improving  documentation, refacoring the code, testing BigBlueButton, improving stability, improving usability, discuss design of current features, explore ways to better support the community, and other topics of interest to developers.  There are also a lot of sub-projects underway -- such as the polling module, android interface, and mconf-web -- that we can get guest speakers to talk on.

These calls will be held within BigBlueButton (of course!).  Afterwards, a recording of the sessions (slides + audio + chat) will be available on the Google Code Wiki.  Our intent is to hold these calls on a regular basis (depending on the response to the first few sessions).

*All* memebers of bigbluebutton-dev are welcome to attend.

Regards,... Fred

Fred, These venues are great... I either participate live or
listen to the weekly freeswitch conference calls and really learn a
lot from following the discussions.

Would it be be possible to alternate some meetings to later in the day
after 3pm eastern,. Know it hard to accomodate everyone, but I'm
generally unable to make any earlier meetings, do to teaching
responsibiities.

We have been working on getting up to speed in github, and have some
customer prototypes with multi salt/client controllers, and video/
youtube/icecast/skype sharing that we have done for clients. I would
like to get synced with the core development efforts as these one off
custom projects are not desired.

I'll definitely listen the the recordings..

thanks
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

We would welcome your participation!

We picked the time of 10am so dev members in Europe could participate as well.   The time is not fixed; we could hold the sessions at alternate times.

For the moment, we wanted to cast the widest net possible.  If it turns out most folks are in NA time zone, we'll adjust the time to accommodate the majority of members.

Regards,... Fred

Yes the 10am time is not great for us here in Australia either, is
there not a time that could fit into most time zones?

I have been working a LOT on the reverse API (callbacks) and any extra
knownedge of the system would really help.

Hi Barry,

We'll do the first call at 10am, but we're certainly flexible in the time for future calls.

If we did the next call at 7 PM EST, for example, that would be likely around 8 AM your time -- correct?

All you have to do is ask :-).

No 7pm will be 11am here in Sydney, 11am is a good time for me. I am
ok with any time between 9am - 4pm and 6pm - 12am

So I have quite a big window, should give some good room to fill some
other time zones in.

Hi Everyone,

The BigBlueButton server has just ended our developer session because it reached the duration for the meeting.  I had set the duration for 4 hours, but it might have been that a few folks joined early.

We're going to continue the meeting (there will be two recordings at the end).  Please rejoin if you can.

Regards,... Fred

Thanks to everyone who joined!

Because we had set the length of the meeting to four hours, we had someone unexpectedly join three hours before beforehand and the server ended the meeting at the fourth hour (one hour into our session).

The recordings for the first BigBlueButton developer session are now available.

http://bit.ly/y0n5rp  (4 hours -- need to advance the audio slider to 3 hour mark)

We'll create a landing page for these recordings on bigbluebutton.org as the list of recorded developer meetings grow.

Thanks again to everyone who attended.

Steven, am interested to get the youtube/skype/html sharing working,
understand those are interim solutions, but is it available in the
code already? or can it be shared? thanks

Qiangiee, using skype to call into meeting is just a freewitch
configuration, and setting up some skype channels, we have implemented
this a few times... What's neat is you get a skype name for BBB any
anyone calling that skype user gets directed to meeting.

We deployed the prototype html/youtube viewer for a commercial
customer last summer, but its not the right approach for.80, as it
relies on an additional flex library, and communicates thru standard
chat module to launch and close attendee windows.

If you have the development skills, or some funding monies this is a
good project, but the project requirements should be closely
coordinated with the core developers.

regards,
Stephen
