deepl translations?

Is it possible to use this for captions translations?

Hi Reimar,

There was a pull request provided by hiroshisuga in 2022.

At the time, we didn't have the bandwidth to review/incorporate this pull request.  Now with the upcoming BigBlueButton 3.0 and the plug-in architecture, it may be a shorter path.

Reimar, you've been with our community for a few years (since 2016).  Do you see any commercial interest for this that could financially support the effort to get this added to BigBlueButton (initial integration and ongoing support)?

If so, please let me know (send me an email).

The dictate function can be enabled in the chrome browser client side, current focus would be for me to do the translation in deepl server-side.  But I don't know if we would also need dictation server side for enabling this. 

@Fred: I work at the Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH. With some 7000 employees and a unique research infrastructure, Forschungszentrum is one of the major interdisciplinary research centres in Europe. We don't have commercial interest but we are also a Research Software Engineering community. I have to check things ;)

Hi there,

Newer version of BBB has integrated Gladia, which can translate a spoken language into a caption of another language by choosing the latter as the target language, automatically detecting the spoken language. Unfortunately the quality is the translated transcription is not as high as the normal (straight) transcription, but it is working somehow also on BBB.

Obviously this function is still immature, hidden carefully from the official Gladia document. But one of the developer (I guess) tipped off about it in the past chat:

Now DeepL accepts audio data for translation. They do it only for European languages for now, but they are going to expand for other languages.

This will be a good candidate for the BBB's transciption/translation engine. It may be incorporated into the bbb-transciption-controller project one day (I hope).
